Official Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers Gameday Thread

Overall, I feel really good after tonight.  The front seven was nasty and the secondary was opportunistic.  Ideally, that's what we have to hope for.  Our secondary isn't great, but playing behind a great pass rush can cover up secondary issues.  I think we have the parts at WR to be successful considering we have a star QB.  Just look at what Tom Brady has to work with and no one seems to be panicking about NE's WR corps.  If Smitty can still be Smitty, we'll be fine there.  My lone worry is the OL, OL depth specifically.  I'd really like to see Kugzilla get some run to see what he has.

Tom Brady is also one of the greatest passers of all time and future Hall Of Famer, they're not comparable. Cam's good, but he hasn't crosses the threshold from "good" to "great", and great QBs are the guys that make average WR's look good.

I liked what I saw tonight minus the Cam INT. Cam INT wouldn't bother me that much if it wasn't as bad as an INT as it was. Good play by the LB, but Cam stared down Greg hard, forced the passed, all whilst Lafell (I think it was him) was WIDE open like eight yards behind him. That being said, it is pre season, the team is still rusty, and for the most part we do look improved.

Still will hold on sticking to any judgments till I see the next two games or so.

Dude, it's preseason.  Everyone was ready to write Steve Smith off as being over the hill until Cam arrived.

Cam isn't on Brady's level as a passer right now and may never be, but he definitely makes his WRs better.

I know it is (hence why I said in my post "that being said, it's preseason and players are rusty so I'll hold off on any judgement for a couple for games"). I don't think Cam is all of a sudden a bust or not our franchise QB or anything like that, still love the dude and think he's a monster, was just worried about the nature of the pick six. I'm just hoping that when it counts he can pick up where he left off last year.

We've always kept things super vanilla in the preseason under Rivera.  Hell, during Cam's rookie year there were legit debates on whether Cam or Jimmeh should be the starter going into the regular season.  Cam proceeded to throw for back to back 400+ yard games in his first two regular season starts.  He's gonna be fine.

You're joking, right?

Tom Brady has benefitted from a strong O-Line, and Moss and Welker (in the spread offense system) in the past. Not even the great Peyton Manning had average weapons on offense (Wayne, Harrison).

The great QBs and great WRs tend to play together.  It's one of those chicken or the egg things.  Would Rice have been the WR he was without Montana, but then again, would Montana have been the QB he was without a WR like Rice?

That's why Smitty is so impressive.  He's put up ridiculous numbers throughout his career without having an elite QB feeding him the ball.

Tom Brady is a tremendous QB, but let's not forget that Matt Cassel looked pretty damn good in Belichick's system too.  He looked so damn good that the Chiefs ponied up a franchise QB type deal and traded a high 2cd round pick to the Pats after the Pats were convinced to slap him with the franchise tag due to uncertainty surrounding Brady's recovery.  He hasn't looked like a starting caliber QB, much less a franchise caliber QB outside of that system.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never once said that. I challenged your statement that Brady has made average receivers look incredible. Brady is one of the greatest QBs the NFL has ever seen but he didn't do it alone. Moss, Gronk, Welker, Hernandez, etc have pushed Brady over the top but he wasn't apart of an offensive juggernaut during the early years. Brady was a great game manager (making smart decisions) who evolved into a QB who could throw 35-40+ touchdowns because of the set pieces and systems that were placed around him by Bill and the front office.

All you said was "you're kidding right" while talking about the things Brady benefited from as a QB. I didn't know if you were refuting the claim that he's one of the GOAT or that he made average dudes look good, either one could be inferred from what you said. Misunderstandings happen,

I wasn't trying to "put words in your mouth."
