Well, the point is obviously lost. There is a lot of "crap" (yes, stuff other than Panthers football in this forum), and I would hope that admin and the mods will be fair-handed in their judgment as to what's crap, and what's not, in as far as it relates to Panthers football, in the Panthers forum.  That said, let's truly talk Panthers football.

We are going to be adding a couple more mods soon.

Remeber when you charge for a premium membership? I'm still paying...

may i suggest a return to the ability to hulk-smash the ever-living fug out of idiot posters with the crimson fury of neg rep? i miss the days when a troll/moron had a forum life of about half an hour in the green before turning into a gigantic extended red ellipses. it was self-correcting and fun at the same time

Yes!

There was an issue of idiot trolls neg repping regulars into oblivion.

I thought rep level kept that in check.

Main problem with rep was people would abuse it and neg rep new posters they didn't like.  Ran a lot of new posters away.

When was the last time you saw a discussion involving race on this board not descend into name calling, race baiting and accusations?

People don't want to deal with that crap in a football forum.  But for those who do want it, there's The Tinderbox.

It's not "sweeping it under the rug" to tell people to discuss it in another forum that's a few mouse clicks away.

When was the last time you saw a discussion involving Armanti Edwards on this board not descend into name calling, homer baiting and accusations?

Sorry to be glib, but I am vehemently against this whole idea that we can just ignore race. The reality is that 90 percent of the posters don't go to any other forums than the main one, so moving it to the Tinderbox is sweeping it under the rug.

I think the NFL has actually made a lot of positive strides in terms of more diversity through the leadership e.g. prominent black head coaches, but I don't think it's a topic we can just ignore. Especially, when, as other have noted, we have a black QB in the heart of south, which let's just say has a troubled history with race relations.

That said I understand what you are trying to say, and I respect the intention of the new rules. I will hold off on judgement until I see how it's implemented.

Excellent! I couldn't have said it better myself.

Regarding trolling, baiting and everything else that turns the forum into a negative experience regarding all subjects, there is no need to use a ba..., err sledgehammer, when a regular household hammer will suffice.

Using the logic being employed here, being told you can't talk about sex in front of a second grade classroom would equate to being told you can't talk about it at all.

Reality is you're not being told "don't talk about it". You're just being asked to do so in a more appropriate place.

(and yes, a second grade classroom is all too often an appropriate metaphor for this forum)

Heck, for that matter, if you wanna talk about basketball, or NASCAR, or movies, or computer games or your job, or your personal life or...whatever, such discussions are directed to other forums. This is not 'suppression'. Discussion of those things is encouraged. Just not in this forum.

Bottom Line: Nobody is infringing on your right to discuss race related topics. They're just pointing out that the proper place to discuss race, religion, politics or any other controversial and emotionally charged topic is somewhere other than a forum that's supposed to be for discussing football.

And seriously guys, The Tinderbox is not hidden away in a hard to find place on the page. Getting into it doesn't require knowing four passwords and a secret handshake. Just the opposite, really. It's actually quite easily accessible from anywhere on the board with just two clicks of a mouse.

Is it really that difficult to click your mouse a couple of times?

The best solution is if the topic might have a racial undertone like the one about Goodell cracking down on celebration just create the thread in the Tinderbox as it has nothing to do with panther football specifically. Problem solved. Because one of the downside of diversity is that what is fair to you may not be fair to everyone. What may not be racial to you may be racial to someone else. Just keep it strictly football. Xs & Os, comp %, yard per, etc. Just my opinion, of course.

I don't know what's so hard to understand about something being Panthers football related. That's all I and others have been saying in this thread, but, you know, some obviously don't want to hear it for whatever reasons. It's all good. I am through being a bulldog about the issue.

One final thing about it: we all know that the Panthers forum is not only about the Xs and Os, nor has it ever been. People from our beloved and just ruler to the most recent newb make choices as to what they do or don't do on here. It's all about standards, so let's develop and enforce these standards evenly across the board.

Z, that new moniker of yours is something I can get with if you---as in you, personally---really think about the sentence before this one.
