Football is a game, no doubt, but in my opinion we would be remiss to not discuss greater questions of a social, ethical and even moral nature.  Race and racism are sometimes legitimate points of discussion (e.g., Riley Cooper). As football and other facets of life mirror some of the ugliness of society, are we just to stick our heads in the sand and act like it doesn't exist because we are uncomfortable or apathetic about discussing such issues when they pop up in professional football, including as it relates to the Panthers?  At some point I would think that you have to say that if you don't want to discuss the issue, then don't go to the thread.

The tinderbox is an alternative, but I would think that a modicum of decorum and civility would be required in that sub-forum as well, otherwise some legitimate issues will not be given their due diligence.

Asking for decorum and civility in a race related discussion on the internet .....

You're adorable.

Could you clarify the racism one for me? For example if the league makes a change to the Ronney Rule and someone makes a thread about it, is that a violation of the racism discussion ban since the Rooney Rule only exists to counterbalance institutional discrimination?

I get the intent based upon some of the more inappropriate posts, but I'm concern it will lead to an exclusion of race from any discussion which I would contend is not healthy for mutual dialogue.

Or to be more provacative, Only white people get to be colorblind.

As long as a conversation stays a conversation it would likely be ok, but it would need to be specific to the NFL. ie: Rooney Rule.

In the ten years I've been on the huddle, I've only let one person truly get under my skin. That was also the only time I've ever had someone on ignore, and that was briefly until I cooled off. Felt kind of like a jackass for letting them get to me like that enough that I probably won't ever let it happen again, and no - I won't be mentioning names.

It's the internet... no one should take it so seriously. I applaud Kurb, The Great One for the statement, and will hope that this is continuously enforced.

Edit: Wtf? Too funny... type in K urb and it puts that "great one" behind it automatically.

tinderbox is an invaluable asset to this community and it would be a travesty to see it go. that said, its topics have no real place in the panthers forum (unless one of our players goes all riley cooper on someone.) it'll be nice to see threads not derailed by page 1

Yeah, we're perfectly capable of quickly getting off topic without bringing race into the equation.
