maybe there is a better solution, and I do agree that any race topic itself isn't the problem, it's the people who subtly jab others for a different point of view and subtly put words into other peoples mouth that then generate a natural downward spiral to any discussion.

Then who do you ban when supporters from both sides of the discussion feel betrayed...  when all could have been avoided by locating the discussion in a different area with different rules.

because that's usually how it goes down...

I just came in here to say that I have a 10-poster ban quota for the gameday threads tonight.

hoping to last until at least 8:30.

As my dad once told me just before sending me off to my honeymoon. Son, don't blow your load early. You gotta work that poo like a boss.

I'll preface this by saying that I'll use black and white to refer to groups of people, but I recognize you cannot sum up an entire group of people with one perspective and inevitably you will have some variance within each group.

As I said before, I get where people are coming from, and I understand how talking about emotionally charged issues can detract from the football there we’re all here to actually talk about.

At the end of the day, this is Zod’s place, and he can make whatever rules he wants. I will abide by any rules and their enforcement as part of my desire to be part of this community.

The point I am trying to make is that by taking race out of the conversation you invalidate the perspective of a large number of posters. The reality is that white people and black people often see how race affects things very differently. To provide an example (but hopefully not get into politics), here’s a poll on the different perspective of the Trayvon Martin case between blacks and non-blacks.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/153776/blacks-nonblacks-hold-sharply-different-views-martin-case.aspx

72 percent of blacks thought racial bias was a major factor in the case whereas only 31 percent of non-blacks felt that way.

In short, the “colorblind” perspective is almost by default the “white” perspective. For many people it is very difficult to separate race from their discussion of a variety of issues related to football because race is central to their perspective on the issue. If we don't talk about it at all, then by default we've taken the position that race doesn't matter.

I want to ensure there is a space for the perspective that race is important within the new rules to allow for what I would consider to be a more complete discussion of the issues at hand. I also feel relegating such perspectives to the Tinderbox would result in a situation where they would be considered, pardon the phrase, separate but not equal.

I’ve probably spent enough time on my personal soapbox on this issue, so I’ll probably just leave it here. Like I said, I understand the argument that is being made i.e. such topics are distracting from what we actually want to talk about. I just believe there is value in having the option of discussing race in the main forum. Hopefully, I have articulated why I feel this way in a respectful manner.

Nobody is 'taking race out of the conversation'.

All they're doing is moving 'the conversation' to a different room.

Don't get why that's so difficult to fathom

I fathom. I just think moving it to a different room lessens the conversation in the main forum. You don't. That's fine. We just have different perspectives on this issue.

See Rayzor's post above.

There are a million places on the internet dedicated to 'real world' discussions. The football section of this board isn't one of them, nor does it need to be.

This is a place to escape the real world for a while. Not to worry; it'll still be there when you log out. But while we're in here, it's time to talk Panther football. And after 8 months without anything on-field to talk about, that is just what I am very ready to do.

I'll work on saving the world on Monday. Tonight, I'm watchin' a football game.

I think you're stated your position well, and I'm sure most posters would agree with you. I happen to have a different take on it, which I've shared throughout this thread.

But I won't belabor the point here. Back to football it is.

Well that thread was spiraling towards a social tone rather than football by many forummers, including myself, until Kurb laid the hammer. Like I said it was a topic that openned the door for people's personal opinion thus the possibility is endless. Plus, how can anybody not see the perceived racial undertone in a white guy forcing a bunch of black guys to behave a certain way is beyond me. Oh, well!!

it's a game. an escape from the reality of this world. not sure why anyone would want murky that up.

For the most part people do keep it strictly sports. But certain topics encompass both sports and social realm, like athletes getting arrested, Cooper's comment, white commissioners dictating behaviors on black athletes, etc. I know what you're trying say but historically sports always had a little more significance than just an escape. Just saying.
