Clausen article

Seems like a lot of double standard among Panther fans who are willing to give credit to Cam for maturing but not Clausen.

Clausen isn't our franchise QB, nor has he faced the media scrutiny that Cam has. Cam is the face of our franchise, while Clausen is a guy who won't even be here next year.

i respect clausen now. he's handled the whole thing with class and acted like a pro. no bitching or whining. just acted like a teammate should.

i didn't like him when we drafted him. i didn't like him when he was losing.

i like him now. not as a player, but as an individual. he's stayed strong and never stopped trying. he's times the character david carr was. clausen failed miserably, but kept his head up. he didn't start blaming others. he just owned it and dealt with the hand he was given.

it can't be easy going through what he did. that was a hard fall to take when so much was expected of you.

i'm not surprised at the lack of maturity of those who have been pooing on him in this thread. i'm sure that follows him around many places he goes around here. i think he's grown from it. he's not that same punk kid that showed up at his signing in a fur coat.

i hope he gets a shot to try and redeem himself somewhere and i hope he's successful. i have no hate for the guy. nothing but respect. he should get more.

Jimmy is making millions and isn't even active on gamedays. He definitely doesn't need your pity.

Most people don't hate him or even dislike him, they just want to move on.

i agree with some of that, but you couldn't tell from the responses in this thread that most don't hate him.

I would still like to believe he has more talent than was displayed when he was on the grand stage.

That is the thing.  He doesn't.

What you saw from Clausen when he started for us is the exact same many saw when he played at Notre Dame where he relied heavily on the athleticism of Golden Tate and Michael Floyd.  Physically, he isn't there.  He just isn't there at all.  I like the guy.  I think highly of him as an individual for managing to keep his head on straight through that 2-14 season and us drafting Cam Newton.  But what we saw with Clausen is exactly what you will always get with him.  A physically limited quarterback.  The velocity on his throws is pathetic and he fails to make up for it with any kind of accuracy.  It is like a Chad Pennington clone except with JaMarcus Russell's accuracy, footwork, and pocket presence.

Where did you get the pity comment?  Don't think it came from anything I said.

He has and still does get a lot of hate on this board.  He has been a team player and never complained.  Just want to give him credit where it is deserved.

he's fun to make fun of, and crack jokes about.

but he's done nothing besides that '10 season to make me angry at him. he's shown class although i honestly think he may be a douche as a person, but he was pretty much put in his place when Cam came, tbh.

I think it's more misplaced anger and blame for the 2010 season than outright hatred. Personally I wish the guy luck wherever he goes in his career, but I'd rather see the roster spot actually put to use. Not to mention his salary.

Putting the blame on him for the 2010 season is definitely misplaced.  Where we drafted him or his salary, is not on him. He has taken a great fall.  Others in the same situation would have made comments that were self promoting and critical of the team.  He has not.  He has never made himself the story...which is surprising given his early history.  I just want to give the man the credit he is due.

Why cannot we agree he has handled things with class?

I've never blamed him for where he was drafted. Credit for what? Getting paid and being quiet? Let's not get carried away. There are many players we can create praise threads for, who ya know, actually dress for games.
