Kansas city and the the 2nd Bucs game last year still make my head hurt.

both bucs games. no way we should have gotten swept by that team. we should have swept them. if we don't sweep them this year I'm gonna be pissed.

10 wins or playoffs should be mark.

i don't see him being fired unless another losing season, tho.

8-8 and Rivera is gone IMO.

New GM has things set up for a rebuild if that goes down.

Rivera is a Hurney guy. 3 years and no winning season? See ya

I have no problem with their prediction but their reasoning was awful. It was basically "If Cam plays good we will do good" They really didnt sound like they knew much about the team. Oh well, I guess thats what we get for being a small market team.

If we stay reasonably healthy and everyone plays at an expected level (by expected level, I mean that young players show reasonable development and vets show what we expect for someone of their specific age and experience...in other words, we don't under or over achieve) I think we have just about as much talent as anyone in the league.  Even last year, we didn't have a losing record because of a lack of talent, but because we didn't know how to win.  When the game is on the line, the top teams stay loose and make positive plays, but we tightened up and made mistakes.

So if we did figure out how to win with our end of the year play, then I don't think there is a game we play this year that we won't have a legitimate chance to win.  Of course we won't win all of them, but we could win far more than most think.  IMO, this is a 10+ win team based on talent and anything less would mean that we once again underachieved.

Hypothetical question....So if they do go 9-7 and just miss the playoffs, is that enough to save Rivera's job?

Is 8-8 a sure ticket out of town for him?

If we don't make the playoffs, anything less than a 10-6 record will cost Rivera his job.  And even at 10-6, it would depend on how we lost...were we prepared, were there obvious coaching gaffs that cost us the game, etc.

If we are 9-7 and showing signs of improvement I do not see how you can let the guy go. 8-8 because of games won after we are out of the running and I would let him go. It takes time to build a 2 win team to a superbowl team.

In today's NFL it really doesn't take that much time. We have already seen a coach take a 2 win team to the Superbowl 2 years in.

If Rivera had a well built D....from a talent perspective and they were healthy....I strongly believe he would have already had 2 winning seasons in the books. But he won't keep a job bc of ifs and buts...

I am still predicting 10-6 or better.

We were 7-9 last year and a few fluky plays away from 10-6 or even 11-5 (Chicago, 2nd TB game, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle).  We have also improved in many areas.

DT...big improvement

LB...improvement getting Blackburn in FA and Beason back

S...Mitchell is a huge upgrade of Nak

DB...Florence is an upgrade and the young guys have one more year of experience

OL...get Kalil back, Amini with a year of exp, (Williams is not a downgrade from Piggy)

WR...get rid of Murphy and bring in Ginn/Hixon (upgrade) not to mention that Armanti might have actually turned the corner (everyone...including the experts who have watched him say he is playing really well)

RB...Barner gives us the scat back

Coaching...like a more balanced attack

This team IS much better than last year and I expect them to challenge for the NFCS.

The vast majority of predictions by both pro and amateur prognosticators has us bat around the same level.

I'm sure some of it's based on sound analysis, though I'd bet a lot of it's just the usual lazy "look at last year's results and tweak a little" that you get from all over.

Heck. You can bet a lot of these guys don't bother to check the entire schedule. Hence, they wind up making a set of predictions that would be mathematically impossible in the real world.

And no, it wouldn't surprise me to find out a fair number of football pundits don't consider the Panthers worthy of an deep thought. They just hear 'Panthers' and say '8-8'.

Who took a 2 win team to the Super Bowl in 2 years?  Not sure if you mean Harbaugh but...

The 49ers were a 2 win team in 2005 and have slowly and methodically rebuilt it and the roster over 6 seasons before Harbaugh took over.

That was not a quick turnaround.

edit:  Maybe you mean Foxy?  Yeah that was a two year turnaround.  We were actually a 1 win team and went to the Super Bowl two years later.
