I know, everything is fluff.  This is a nice read, but nothing new.

I am hoping this is Shula's time.  He has waited patiently in the background for years.  He sounds like a smart guy so am hoping he has learned a lot along the way. (Plus his sounding board is not too bad.)   As for his first stint as OC, my guess is he got that a bit too early because of his name.  Plus, he did not have the talent to work with that he has now.

I am optimistic that he will design an offense that utilizes all of our weapons.

I am expecting great things from this offense.

Sure that is fan speak....but WTF.

it's a big unknown, but i think he'll do alright. at the end of the day offensive talent overcomes bad playcalling more than good playcalling overcomes a lack of offensive talent. i'm really pumped to see if they're clicking on all cylinders in preseason games

I think it's pretty cool that Don Shula is a fan of the team.

I am sure he is a fan of his son....which works.

With his father as a mentor and a sounding board, as well as his own experience....I am not going to bet against him succeeding  this time.

I admit, I have a fan bias as well.  But, so what?

I have a good feeling about this team.

he better be dam good because with the Oline we have, they will have exactly 2 seconds before the defense is in the backfield

Yup, at fanfest during drills, cam would have been sacked or been forced to make a quick decision with the lack of time he was getting. This team is in for a big disappointment if they think the answer to oline worries is on the roster. It isn't. I have faith that management will pick up at least 1 or maybe 2 free agent linemen. If they don't, I'm not confident in our ability to score consistently enough to compete for the south. Hope I'm wrong.

he's done and said all the right things so far and i  like the way things are shaping up, but the real test come game days. that's always been my biggest doubt about him. we'll be finding out soon enough if he's really improved or not. i hope he has.

I would disagree to this.

I don't think it's so binary. Good play calling puts the talent that's there to its optimal use.

If you take talent and completely misuse it, all the talent in the world can't overcome that. For example if you take a quick, athletic offensive offense and run smash mouth power I football with them, their speed and quickness will never overcome the position they're put in.

I'm a product guy at work and I tell Sales all the time "My job is to (metaphorically) build the fastest sports car available. Don't get mad at me cause you sold it to some guy to tow his boat and now it doesn't work."

i mean i'm not saying you can call a bullshit run on 4th and 38 with the game on the line and make the playcalling look good because of talent, but there's a definite dynamic between the two wherein the gap between the league's worst and best offense is much greater than the gap between the league's worst and greatest playcaller. at the end of the day, most coaches in the league are going to make decent calls most of the time. the equivalent isn't true of a similar sampling of league offenses.
