Panthers Release Hangartner

I get what you are saying but the timing is what bothers me about this...what does that do to the psyche of your offensive line (which has had struggles) when you take away a vet who has been running with the ones throughout camp?

It says "perform or else".

For my part, I expected Hangartner to make the final roster as a backup. Sure didn't see this coming.

Great guy, but yeah, it's a business.

So long Piggy, and thanks.

Agree with others that this may be a shot across the bow by Gettleman. I suspect he may not like what he has been seeing in camp and feels it's time to up the urgency.

But no one should lose a minutes sleep over this. By the time the season starts, there will be at least 20 to 30 guards floating around either better or equal/younger/cheaper than Hangman.

While I am sure we are looking at a guard... I also wouldn't be surprised if he is just opening up more room to help get Hardy under a long term contract before he increases his value even more.

doubt that VERY seriously.....there is no depth at G.  Kug has been injured.  No way this is to no sign an upgrade.

Well said...I think most of us are just concerned.  As of right now we don't have a starting RG on the roster.  I feel like that's an ok thing to be worried about.

I understand how Gettlemen is doing business and I like that he is doing it this way but I still see a big hole at right guard and very little depth while a franchise QB can't even step into his throws in practice.

Gettleman's point is that Hangman was not a starting RG. There was little to no drop off with him out. So.... lets save some $$>

slow down there grasshopper......

Gettlemen is no idiot. He has a plan that has been up in motion.  He will be bringing in our starting RG in the next day or so......prob either Wharton or Moore.

We all know GH sucks. Great, he's a nice guy. He can still hang out with the boys in the offseason.

For too long this team has emphasized having a bunch of nice guys around whether they can play or not. Glad to see that might be changing.

this this a thousand times this

some of us are still hung over from the hurney era where being a nice player, popular with the fans, and having chemistry with everyone else took priority over having actual talent. gettleman is dropping the hammer and i love it.

Hangman has been one of the most terrible offensive lineman in the league the past couple years and has brought down the entire line at times, not jsut the right side.

If I had known that cutting him netted us 2mil in space, I would've been screaming for us to do it months ago.
