Panthers Release Hangartner

not a fan of cutting ties with one player without a replacement/upgrade in the wings. i hope there is one.

the timing of it is what i thing is the hard thing to come to grips with. it's kind of a shock. i think we all knew this was coming at some point, but now? why? of course you could also ask why not....

Shocking yes because I don't think people thought it would come. Timing: meh. What's even more shocking is Dator blowing up about the what ifs. Piggy was TERRIBLE.

The MOST shocking thing is the reactions by everyone.. how could anyone be comfortable with Piggy starting? The outcome is favorable because a bottom 5 RG release just saved us $4M over 2 years.

I get what you are saying but the timing is what bothers me about this...what does that do to the psyche of your offensive line (which has had struggles) when you take away a vet who has been running with the ones throughout camp?

I like the precedence that Gettleman is setting but I just wish he had done this before camp.  If Moore or Wharton is signed they won't even be able to practice (in pads) for two days.  This is just a recipe for early offensive line struggles in the first month of the preseason.

Oh God....not the preseason..... :D

I agree with the message this sends to the team....don't get comfortable with the way things are. if you aren't climbing/progressing and you are a weak link, you're gonna be gone soon.

i don't think this is going to hurt chemistry on the OL this year. the team was moving on from him at some point anyway. and as far as the guys being buddies with him....they'll get over it. it's just business and they all understand it. he'll land on his feet...probably as starting center in denver.

Hangartner sucked last year, he became a liability. Sure, use him as a backup but not with that contract, and I doubt he'd be happy taking a significant pay cut either.

Good move. poo getting real in Panther nation. I'm sure theres 1 or 2 vets in the wings to sign.

does it mean you have to cut him? bring in another player if ya got to, let him be a backup, but cutting him doesn't make since to me.

My guess is we are trying to roll over as much cap space as possible. Cutting him gives us room to sign someone and still rollover a bunch of cap space.
