Panthers Release Hangartner

I said even before the draft I thought DG would focus on D....putting real O investing off a year.

You say he has given us all the tools? 3 of 5 offensive lineman are question marks. The one drafted lineman was a project and not for 2013 aid.

He also added competition for the bottom of the WR depth chart and those positions are largely irrelevant in the scheme we run.

OL is still weak....we added a RB that doesn't help as much now as it does aid us as we depart from Double Trouble next year.

We aren't better on O around Cam. Not right now. Saying we are is just preseason hype spin.

We slightly improved at the #3 and likely the #4 WR spot and added a 3rd string RB. However, Gross is another year older, Smith is another year older...they are at the stage where they are lesser players each year. Maintaining technically means you get a little worse there.

So long story short all that offsets each other. We aren't better around Cam. That would require in investing something real into a Cam offense.....which we haven't under DG.

Horrible, horrible post.

1 OL is a question mark. Amini played well towards the end of last year and looks great in camp. Jordan Gross is still Jordan Gross. Same with Kalil. Bell should perform better with a high quality RG. We could have an average OL this year with a good vet signing.

Ginn is largely irrelevant in the scheme we run? Do you watch football? He's the fast player we need, the one that's going to stretch the field by forcing safeties to cover him opening up lanes for everyone else. Smitty will be in the slot much more where he belongs. Hixon is an upgrade over Louis Murphy. Lafell is having his strongest camp ever and has only improved every year.

Calling Barner a third string RB? Are you trying to troll? Have you been watching camp updates or listening to gettle or Rivera? He's a scat back, is actually blocking well, lightning quick, runs super low, can catch well. He will not be utilized like a traditional RB and will get at least 400 All Purpose Yards this year. Mark my words on that.

The only thing you were even close to on here is that 1) Gross is in fact a year older and his play may decline slightly. He won't be here next year and will still be average this year. 2) Smitty is a year older, but have you seen him slow yet? If they utilize him in the slot much more often you may actually see his production go up not down.

If sacrificing our season opener is worth saving a few extra bucks, it's gonna be a long season.

Or what I have been thinking this whole time and what delhommey said in the other thread. You dont play up the need when you are dealing with a players agent you want to sign.

Ill be very dissapointed in gettleman is this isnt smokescreen

I'm just going to say this. This move was not about saving money. This move was about sending a message to the team, as loudly as Gettleman could. This move shows that you earn your spot in the NFL, on the Carolina Panthers. Nothing is sacred to Gettleman. You think the team doesn't know we need offensive line help, and then we go and release one of the starters that's good friends (and has great chemistry) with the rest of them? Oh, they seen it. trust me.

This move also should light a fire straight under Kugzilla's ass. You haven't practiced yet, rookie. You come into camp overweight. You think that just because you were drafted you are safe? wake up, dude.

A dozen other teams will be doing the same thing. The Seahawks may even be one of them

Do the Seahawks have a patchwork offensive line? This dated philosophy we've been following with rolling the dice and hoping for the best has gotten us 4 winning seasons. Forgive me if I'm tired of towing the company line.

So Gettleman says its time for cam to win, then he cuts a mediocre player so an even worse player can take his place. All while we have 12 mil in cap space.

We have NO money. It's all going towards next year. What makes you think Williams is worse than Hangman? Hangman's play has seriously declined. Rivera claims Williams was supposed to be a starter awhile back but was held back due to injury. We cleared 4 mil in much needed cap space for 2013 and 2014. If Williams looks absolutely horrible we now have the option to bring in someone and STILL save money by having cut Hangman.

If sacrificing our season opener is worth saving a few extra bucks, it's gonna be a long season.

That's a bit dramatic. Having a below average RG shouldn't be considered "sacrificing our season opener"  If he's truly horrible they'll grab Wharton before the game and again, STILL save money.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
