Panthers Release Hangartner

I honestly feel like we are and have been ok at every single position in question since camp except RG.

WR- Ginn and Hixon look great, Barner is going to help. Adams looks improved and Smitty is going to be playing in the slot more. Maybe that other He-man looking TE can make the team and help with receptions

DB- Florence looks good. Mitchell looks fantastic and IMO will be the surprise player of the year. Also solidifying the D Line will allow the LB's to roam and help the DB's

O-Line- Kalil is back, Silatolu looks like a starter and we have gross as well for at least this year. I think if Bell had a quality RG beside him he would play at a near average level.

Find a good RG and I think we're ready for the season!

I know that many of you are waiting for my analysis and prediction.  You have come to rely on my insights and uncanny vision.  So, to avoid disappointing the masses, here is why this happened and what will happen.  Don't forget to tag this so in a few days you can boast about how right I always am:

(of course, I was being sarcastic--I rarely get this stuff right)

Razor and a few others mentioned the timing, and it does seem odd.  I think he wanted to see where Kugbila was in his developement--is he a long-term project, a career backup, a surprising star?  But Gettlemen only knows Kugbila's ability in terms of the Tour de France, not football.  Garry WIlliams, Austin, -- no starting material.  Hangartner?  A valuable backup, but if Gman was going to sign a quality veteran, he would rather have Byers and his $500K than Hangarter and his $2 million.  So, yesterday, when the kids were sleeping, Gettlemen was not. He reached an agreement with a G after meeting with the coaches.   While it seems the chemistry may be disrupted, how many days did the OL pracitce together as a unit?  I do not think they did once.

So, and this is the amazing part, who will the new old guy be?  Signs point to Wharton, but think harder.  Wharton is damaged goods.  You don't cut your starter and hire a question mark.  Now, Razor and me and everyone else, the weird timing was not cutting Hangartner, it was his hard-ball negotiation with Beason.  Why was Gettlemen, who was about $9 million under the cap then, clearing cap room with such vigor?  Hangartner may have been offered a chance to reduce his salary and remain as a backup, but he may have felt that he has a chance to start at Center in Denver, where they have 2 centers already out for the year.  So, it benefited Hangarter to NOT take the lower rate.  Were the Panthers shopping Hangartner? Maybe.  Regardless, cutting Hangartner creates about $1.8 million more in room and nothing is guaranteed.  While the timing seemed weird to us, it allowed us to check him out and dangle him as trade bait--that would not have happened later or earlier.

The Smart money says Moore.  I agree, but I am also thinking that we could sign 2 OL by tomorrow.  Could Wharton be the other?  I dunno.  He can play 4 OL positions.  Still, I think we checked out Wharton as an alternative to Moore, as a negotiation ploy or a genuine substitute.  While I am confident we look at RT, my crystal ball is fuzzy.  I am not feeling Wharton.  I am, however, feeling Moore.  I think the past two weeks has been about making the room.  I will bet that he wanted a 3-year deal; Gettlemen offered 1.  However, with Kugbila looking more like a paper boy than a linemen,  do not be surprised to see a 2-year deal in the $5 million range.

everyone keeps saying we have no money we have no money, well how the hell are we going to sign a quality guard if we have no money? Cutting Hangman was stupid.

I think this move puts us at like $15 m under the cap. We have plenty of money.

We have a of money. Just none next year

Eh stop worrying about next year. Gettleman will make some moves to clear that up too. He took us from like +16 to -10 in 2 months this offseason and we only lost Gamble and Anderson.

I'm not worried. Gettleman has done everything perfect so far. I have complete faith in the dude
