8-1-13 Camp Thread

I actually like Williams pass blocking skills a lot. He's a little bit vulnerable to the bull rush, but he's very quick, and can also play RT. I would rather play Williams at RT than Bell. Piggy had gotten to the point where he could barely even run, and he never had any power for a guy his size.

You're right it is business...

So explain to me how we're going to sign Moore or Wharton on a vet minimum contract, while sending them a message that we aren't interested and our primary focus is on our young players.

Can you explain how we'd be offering a contract to a free agent and yet somehow sending a message that we're not interested in him? That's completely contradictory. The whole reason we'd offer a contract to a FA is because we're obviously interested in him. "We don't want you here but hey here's an offer...will you sign with us?" Are you saying that's how Moore or Wharton would interpret an offer from the Panthers?

Starting Bell at RT is very risky for Cam. I was pacing back and forth during the Denver game because I was convinced Bell was about to get Cam killed. Williams is a better pass blocking RT than Bell imo. He has far better lateral movement and quickness, while Bell is barely quick enough to even play the position. I'd love to see Williams back at RT given what we currently have on the roster, but at the same time I'd also rather bring in more talent.

Who said we offered anyone a contract? I certainly wasn't aware of this fact...

Wait...what? How do you propose we sign a free agent WITHOUT eventually offering them a contract at some point? I never said we offered anyone a contract, but in any scenario where we'd be trying to sign one of these guards, we'd obviously be offering them a contract at some point. So in the FUTURE if we offer a contract to one of these guys, they're gonna be less inclined to sign with us because they think we're not interested in them due to Rivera's response? Is that what you're saying? My question is how the hell would they take a contract offer as us NOT being interested? If we're not interested in them then we wouldn't offer any contract (again, in the FUTURE)...simple as that.

I'm trying to be as detailed as possible so my point doesn't fly clear over your head again. So here's the scenario:

-We decide we want to sign Brandon Moore

-We offer him a deal that he deems to be fair OR is obviously the best offer he's going to get

-He accepts the offer

Where is the hole in that scenario? Brandon Moore is gonna be like "Naw man these guys clearly don't want me...I heard Rivera say something to the press about sticking with their young guys"? Us eventually offering a contract (if we decide we want him) = us being interested in him...I don't get what's so hard to understand about that.

My apologies for bumping a day-old camp thread, but it didn't sit right with me that this guy posts some snobby sarcastic response without even addressing anything I said just because he clearly didn't understand my post.

Yeah let's go young and cheap on the offensive line, why would we want to protect our quarterback?

Throw them in the fire now, see who responds and pick up a vet when they become available. Any vet would be as good as Hangartner. I really don't see the problem.
