Curry Wants Bobcats, Workout Scheduled

Recommended Posts

Seth Curry was probably on pace to be drafted, but an injury derailed any chance that he had of hearing his name called on draft night. Now the most sought-after UDFA this year, Curry has his eyes set on only one team... The Charlotte Bobcats, ermmm I mean Hornets!?! Curry has already received training camp offers from the Spurs, T-Wolves, and Warriors. However, Seth seems content to wait for that training camp offer from his hometown team rather than joining his brother in San Francisco or a championship contending team in San Antonio. Seth has a workout scheduled with Charlotte at the end of the month, in hopes of gaining that training camp invite from the Bobcats. Curry is one of four players followed by Antawn Jamison, Jamaal Tinsley, and Devin Ebanks that the Bobcats have interest in at this point in free agency. With three roster spots open, it seems like a real possibility that Curry will claim one of those spots; especially if he can play the point guard position as well as the two guard.

For Seth Curry, son of a former Hornets sharpshooter, nothing would be better than to stay in Charlotte and play for the hometown Bobcats.

"It's my home," Curry said. "This is where I grew up. I would love to come back here and play."

Charlotte could certainly use someone who plays Curry's brand of basketball. The Bobcats shot 33.5 percent from the 3-point line as a team, and Ben Gordon was the only full-time player to average better than 35 percent, at 38.7 percent.

"They have a lot of guys who can slash and create," Curry said of the Bobcats. "They have a few shooters, guys who can not down shots consistently, but I think they need more shooters. I can fill that role and be a guard who comes off the bench and scores."

"Just the opportunity to show that I can handle the ball full time and play the point guard position," Curry said. "I know I can I just have to get the opportunity to get out there and show it."

Just him being a BJ Armstrong type guard to stand out top and pop open 3's on double teams is all I would expect...if he could come close to having his brother's ball handling then it would be a steal.

Need for shooting has to be there and Ben Gordon is still on the team. Seth could contribute more next season and continue the Hornet tradition of having a Curry jack up impossiblly bad shots that go in!

I love how easy some of you think it is to just trade Ben Gordon

The same Ben Gordon that is making $13,200,000 this season.

His contract is valuable to us in 2 ways... one, it expires after this season and that gives us $13.2 extra million dollars to use in next seasons free agency which is exponentially better than this year's was.

two, halfway through this season there will be some teams that want to tank shed salary and will trade us multiple draft picks and/or players for Ben Gordon to have the ability to be a player in free agency.

Right now, he is actually a valuable asset to the Bobcats because of his big fat expiring contract and nothing to do with his basketball ability.

We could get another Al Jefferson caliber player next offseason with Ben Gordon coming off of the books... We will then go from a rebuilding to formidable team immediately...

What i would like to see is do is package him with a first round pick and try to trade for someone like paul george.

I would trade Ben Gordon, a first round pick, and Kemba or MKG for Paul George... and Indiana still wouldn't do that.

I would love for something to fall in our lap like that, but we have to hold on to Ben Gordon to maintain the flexibility to do that.

I don't know if they wouldn't.   His rookie contract is up soon and he will be looking for a max contract, something I think it will be difficult for the Pacers to give him.  If they get into negotiating and find that he is asking for too much, they might not have a choice.  A package with Gordon(cap relief), MKG(young player with loads of potential) and a lottery pick in the best draft of the last decade would give them a pretty good return for a player they would have to let walk for nothing.
