Because it's a stupid question? If you look at eli's and cam's stats they are very similar especially in the early years which cam is playing in right now. What makes you think that he isn't confident in cam? This is a situation where you are overanalyzing.

 

No actually it's not. These guys are asked simple questions like these ALL THE TIME. How was their defense? Did the game go how you thought it would? Would you have done something different? How you thought about other options?  I could do it all day.

 

It's a stupid question doesn't mean it's a difficult question that needs 30 seconds to think about (embellished but you know.)

 

I didn't say he wasn't confident in Cam, I'm saying that it doesn't look good if you hesitate like that. This board is SO determined to hate one man, they could never allow themselves to think it's not all him.

 

Did he do a fully, worth while article, including all that needed? No. Did he flip everything into saying "THIS JUST IN, G-MAN SAYS CAM IS ON TRADING BLOCK AND HE HATE'S RICHARDSON'S GUTS!!!" No.

 

I think this board is overreacting towards Person the way that..... they think Person did the article.

it was a dumb question and a very well thought out answer and if you take the time to look at the entirety of gentleman's answer, which person didn't include because didn't create any drama, you would see a GM who is suprememly confident in his answer. the problem isn't the pause, it's tbinking that there is anything to read into person's spin that there was something to read between the lines. 

 

gettleman's comments as a whole says everything. the pregnant pause says nothng. it's dead air.

 

that this is an issue at all is all on person, not gettleman. person was looking for the dramatic spin and he found one like he usually does.

sometimes i dont even answer bad questions, but a pause and an awkward look at the person posing the dumb question.  now that i think about it, Getti should have paused for 45 seconds and said, "next question"

if this was the only time he had done poo like this, it would probably not be such a big deal, but he does this kind of thing quite often and he knows he's doing it. he takes the most negative spin that could be made and asks things fishing for some possible negative comment quite often. players don't like talking to him and they've even called him out before. i don't doubt he's the least favorite of the reporters because they know how he's going to spin stuff.

 

no one would have said anything about the delay in an answer if person hadn't been fishing for a negative way to view it. no one else that was there thought anything of the delay and from the way reed talked about it on the radio it wasn't that long of a pause. he said there were several questions in one (which person does a lot) and if ANYTHING was to be read into it, it was gettleman still getting used to talking to the media and wanting to make sure his answer was complete and well thought out rather than just some shoot from the hip thing, which i appreciate. and from the rest of the things that gettleman said after that slight delay you can tell that there is no doubt. this is an instant where context and the entirety of the conversation and quote was needed, but person didn't include it because it didn't provide the drama and headline he wanted.

person will ask a question that will not get the exact answer he was fishing for or no real answer at all but a "i'm not going to talk about that right now" and he'll keep on asking it and he'll receive that roll of the eyes with a "next question".
