Carolina Panthers Training Camp Update - 7-30 - Improved Taste!

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say, but having taller receivers would most certainly help reduce Cam's incompletions.  And using Seattle as a point doesn't contradict anything I said.  Seattle's combo of short QB and WRs didn't produce much, they had one of the worst passing offenses in the league.

Having receivers that can actually create separation and catch would obviously help. Im not sure where the taller receivers came from, but okay.

People worrying about Newton having a bad practice probably never saw one of Brett Favre's practices (or Jake Delhomme's for that matter).

Gunslinger QBs are just about always 'gamers', i.e. not great in practice but significantly better when real bullets are flying.

Newton may have bad practices, might even have bad preseason performances.  It happens.

When he's consistently bad in a real game, that's when I'll be concerned.

Till then...

Not worry about bad practices. Everyone have their up and down days. Worried about the little things that can help further Cam's potential.

Almost all of Cam's inaccurate passes are high + taller receivers would be more capable of bringing down those high passes = taller receivers would mean fewer incompletions by Cam.

Thats your "theory". Nothing proves that taller receivers are more capable of making Quarterbacks better. For whatever reasons a guy named Tom Brady made a living off completing passes to a 5'9 Wes Welker.

Id love to have a 6 footer like Moose or Bowe, but right now I rather just have a good receiver than worrying about their height.

Try to read what I'm actually writing.  I didn't say all tall receivers make all QBs better.  I said giving Cam taller receivers would help mask his greatest passing deficiency - his tendency to sail passes a little high.  My comments have been Cam specific, not talking about all QBs in general.  If CAM had taller receivers to work with, his high passes wouldn't be as big of a problem.

I'm just saying that I wish we'd focus our WR efforts on guys that are on the taller side of the spectrum rather than having a bunch of 6ft and under guys and Lafell.  I want taller receivers, 6'2 or taller preferably, who can also catch.  We haven't had one of those outside of Lafell since Gettis played in '10.  This falls into what people have been saying in other threads about other young QBs being given weapons.  Cam's been given weapons, unfortunately he's been given chop sticks in a spear fight.

You don't find giant receivers just to make up for newton's high throws, you work with Newton to step properly and follow through on the throw.  You do draft quick fast receivers with good hands (if you can find them) because it makes it harder for DBs to defend them, it gives Cam a big target to throw to (nor just vertically but a bigger radius to the front or back given the longer body and longer arms), and most big receivers are usually more physical and stronger.

Unfortunately there are just  so many Calvin Johnson's out there.

Lafell is 6'2. Same height as Moose and Bowe.

I'm not saying Cam should be able to just ignore his problems and expect outside factors to mask it.  I'm saying that if we had been getting normal to bigger sized WRs, his high throws wouldn't be as big of a problem.  Of course Cam should still be working on his footwork and followthrough.  In addition to that, I'd prefer a WR corps that has an average of taller than 5'10.  I'm not even saying I expect a WR corps of 6'3 and taller.  Average (6'1) guys would be acceptable and would help with Cam's overthrows.  I was saying "taller" receivers.  As in taller than our midget corps.

For example, Lafell isn't a giant, he's just barely above average at 6'2 if I recall correctly.  And his ability to elevate lead to the longest TD pass in team history.  And the pass was, admittedly, probably overthrown.  Some will look at it as "Cam just put it where only the WR could get it!  Yea, what an awesome pass!"  but truly it was probably a bit overthrown and that's why Lafell was able to take it to the house.

A large portion of Cam's interceptions have been passes that were overthrown and Smitty couldn't get up to get them or some lazy asshat like Legadoodoo can't high point a ball and sometimes didn't even try and a safety playing behind was able to catch it.

Brady has bad practices. I'm not worried it was the 4th day in a row and anybody arms and technic can suffer threw to over work and no rest days. Plus he was ripping it up earlier in practcies.

And even then, Cam doesnt have to be Tom Brady(few QBs are). He has something Brady has never, nor will ever have and its pure athleticism. At Cams early stage, he can get away with some of the poorer fundamentals because hes just such a freak of an athlete. If this team can surround Cam with even just a smidge better talent, its a playoff team year in and year out.

Is Cam making the right move mentally and had a half practice that wasn't great physically? Because I'm more concerned if he is making wrong reads/early checkdowns/etc. than I am about him sailing some balls during a practice.
