Gettleman on Cam "It's time to start winning"

Believing it is all some smart motivational ploy IMO is wishful thinking....

IMO it goes back to his initial comments about the QB position when he arrived. If Dave was allowed to build a team from scratch.....he wouldn't want Ron or a new age QB like Cam. Those were 2 forced on him.

I don't think Gettleman has a problem with Cam. After watching both Newton and Eli Manning their first two seasons, I can honestly tell you that Cam was/is a better QB than Eli their first two seasons. And this is even after you remove Cam's running threat. I don't see what Gettleman would be upset with, after watching Cam's film/games.

Now, Rivera is another story. Lol. However, I do think that the presence of Rivera (as it's been stated before here), can make Rivera better and more on his toes as a Head Coach. So there's hope.

We'll see?

Now we are analyzing the pause which Joe fuging Person emphasised?

I would have paused too, because it was a stupid ass question, and that's putting it nicely.

While I do question the question, I still don't know why he would hesitate on the answer... Unless, he was searching for the right words to convey the right sense of urgency regardless of how committed he is to Cam.

I'm just presenting it as a counter point. Do you consider Rivera to be a solid young coach?

Even though Rivera is a lame-duck, do you think Gettleman was gonna come in and say,"Rivera is mediocre, and I don't really want him as my coach, but I have to keep him."

I think the point your missing is: He called Cam "a great young quarterback", and called Rivera a "solid young coach". There's a clear point of difference/perspective, and hierarchy there, even as (you're saying) Gettleman's being polite/diplomatic.

I'd rather be called/described as "great" any day over "solid". Wouldn't you? Lol

Person is a local beat writer.

Gettleman knows even a jackass like him should already know the answer to a question like that. He is an awful reporter, and seems to be just trying to stir up controversy. Which likely annoyed Gettleman.

Unless you saw the video; you do realize this is a reporters interpretation. So how do you know?

Plus, even when you read the actual passage, it seems much more harmless than how it was presented by NFL.com (apparently), and here.

Geebus. Between our local media, fans, and front office I swear we could fug up a free lunch at the Y.

I am not that freaked out by any if this. I think Gettleman was just trying to choose his words wisely so he took a few seconds to collect his thoughts.

One of the things that made Bobby Cox one of the most beloved managers of all time is that he always had his players back. Even if they struggled.

However, I have always been the type of guy who thinks publicly you have to emphatically defend your guys. There is plenty of time to back pedal later.

The now famous pause gives mixed signals that could alienate your franchise QB (although I am not worried about that in this case because I know Cam would say the exact same thing about records and winning) but it also creates a needless distraction for Cam and the team.

No, I'm not missing the point. There is an obvious hierarchal nature conveyed in those comments, but the overlying theme is he's not going to say what he REALLY feels about anyone he is inheriting in his first presser.

Then why are we arguing, debating his feelings in the fist place (unless that's what you're saying)?

Exactly, coming from a season where everyone proclaimed he had gone into a slump, this is the last thing Cam needs to be thinking about. He is starting to be the leader of the offense but his confidence can be shaken and his legitimacy questioned when everyone feels like he is not THE guy (thanks to your GM's long pause).

Let's not be overly dramatic.

Cam doesn't pay attention to the 24/7 media garbage, and I highly doubt he's going to start now.

That wasn't his first presser and in his eyes and to many others in the league yes rivera is a solid young coach, you're over-thinking this.

Because someone pointed to those initial comments as evidence that he wholeheartedly believes in and supports Cam.

My initial feelings about his first statements on Cam were that he was playing to the fans and JR, but didn't necessarily prefer Cam. That's JMO, but as I said, we don't really know how he feels either way... I was just pointing out that we can't take his comments at face value considering the circumstances.

I'm not overreacting to it b/c ultimately this season will have a lot of influence in how people currently feel, but is worth looking at the possibility that Gettleman might not be a "Cam guy." It also could very well be much ado about nothing.
