Gettleman on Cam "It's time to start winning"

Calling it right now:

We will draft offense in 3 of the first 4 rounds next season with priority being an offensive tackle and a receiver. I believe the defensive pick with either be a safety or corner depending on how this season unfolds.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see us bring in another receiver via free agency and potentially a guard.

The weapons will be in place at the start of next training camp. How they gel and adjust to the pro game remains to be seen.

Neither the answer nor the pause bother me. The answer has been covered, but the pause?

Gettleman has to choose his words carefully. He comes across as unsure & the Cam haters in the media begin to fap excitedly, spewing speculation & possibly causing distractions. Comes across as overly commited, & Cam's agent spends the next 15 or so months drawing up contracts that would make Hurney blush.

Silence speaks a 1,000 words and that pause of silence idk wtf that was

Hope it was just a pause being a rookie to this media stuff that he realized he was trying to be setup to poo on our QB

Nope... We've seen enough of his pressers to know that he isn't shy or reserved when dealing with the media. He's very much comfortable with the media. That pause had nothing to do with his comfort level. Go back and listen to his comments from his first presser on what he thinks a franchise QB is and what we have in place... I sensed from the beginning that he wasn't a fan of Cam.

If that's the case, we can find a new GM.

Gettleman is simply watching his azz. If Cam does not "win", he will not take too much slack drafting one. His comments about Cam when he was first hired juxtaposed with this one show a pattern.

As for the weapons argument, I kinda tend to disagree. The offense to me is ok. With this same offense, we were 5th in Cam's rookie year and 12th ranked last season (minus shockey). The problem was how they were used or in the case of the RB, not used. Chud wasted half a season and poor Rivera could not reign him in. It took Cam speaking out (when he said at his presser that something had to change) for the whole organization to get shaken up.

Having said all this, Gettleman should have known better but I hope Cam sees it as a challenge.

Goes back to winning or losing not being a QB stat.....

Mark Sanchez went to two AFCCGs in his first 2 years....that didn't make him elite.

Person probably asked it bc Dave has made comments about the position before that don't seem to match what Newton is, he has zero say virtually in what his team would be this year etc. Does Gettlemen REALLY believe in Cam? That isn't a dumb question and I am not sure he does

It's a very dumb question that you keep asking time and time again even though he's been quoted numerous times implying that he's very satisfied with what we have under center.

Lets go back to when he was first hired.

"There are a lot of great things in place here. You've got great ownership, a great young quarterback, a solid young head coach and plenty of other things to go along with it. I know some of the people in the personnel department that I’m excited to work with. It’s a good nucleus to begin with."

Now lets fast forward to this afternoon.

In Carolina, Gettleman will build the team's future around Cam Newton.

"Yes. He is (that quarterback)," Gettleman said. "But now it's time to win.

"Cam has had the best two years of any rookie quarterback in NFL history," he added. "Everybody talks about the other (quarterbacks), the other young kids. What he's done has gotten completely lost in the sauce because of the elephant in the room, because of the 13-19 record."

Gettleman believes Newton has the talent and work ethic required to raise his level of play and remove that elephant in the room.

"He's really physically gifted obviously," Gettleman said. "He's gotten better. He keeps improving. What you're looking for is ascension, and he consistently does it.

"He works his fanny off and there's no reason he can't continue to ascend, and I think he will."

What else is there to say?

You saw where he immediately followed "a great young QB" with "a solid young coach" right? I'm just saying, I wouldn't take that as a vote of confidence.

How the hell does that imply a lack of confidence? Holy crap talk about micro analyzing.

I'm just presenting it as a counter point. Do you consider Rivera to be a solid young coach?

Even though Rivera is a lame-duck, do you think Gettleman was gonna come in and say,"Rivera is mediocre, and I don't really want him as my coach, but I have to keep him."
