Gettleman on Cam "It's time to start winning"

Anybody have an issue with the question that was actually asked??? What kind of moron (Person) would ask the GM if Cam is their future QB? Really? Nothing about the offensive line problems that are so obvious or the lack of talent at cornerback and wide receiver. Or hell just ask which rookie has impressed you. Geez Person, I wanted to smack him for that crap.

And as far as Gettlemen's answer is concerned I think its right on, and its what everyone is thinking. Cam won't be elite until he starts winning games. I understand it takes a team to win games but when Luck, RGIII, and Wilson do it their first year its hard to overlook. Personally I think coaching is the issue and it pains me to know that we'll have to deal with that for another year.

But thanks Person for your great question on the topic that all of us are pretty sure of...and thats that Cam is ABSOLUTELY our QB of the future.

Cam won't be elite until we starting winning you say? How about to win Cam has to be elite. Winning does not an elite QB make. Look at Dan Marino and Colin Kaepernick. One is arguably one of the best all time and one is about the most overrated aside from the The Golden Calf of Bristol days in Denver. Colin won a single game for the 49ers last year and the rest goes to Jim Harbaugh, the defense, and to their beast of an offensive line.

People become "elite" over night to the media anymore but once we start winning it will be because Ron Rivera, Shula, and the defense. Cam will get his and has been but he has made mistakes in crucial times and so has the rest of the team. He doesn't need to be "elite" he just needs to be Cam and in my opinion that is good enough.

PS: I am not a Cam nuthugger, I hate the SEC, I'm an App fan, grew up just south of Boone and now I'm in the middle of ACC country where no one cares about the SEC or the players who come from there. Do not color me a Cam hugger. I simply want the team to win and will watch the panthers, or listen from the pregame show till the final whistle.

You're right to a point.  When I say elite I mean that he will be considered one of the top QB's in the league.  Marino won games...just never a Super Bowl.  Don't confuse that.  Sanchez won games and got teams to the playoffs but isn't considered elite.  So yes, there is a fine line.  You have to have the talent, drive, determination, and quite frankly, the personality to be elite.  I think Cam has ALL of that and more.  All he needs to do is start winning.  If the Panthers go 10-6 this year and get into the playoffs I guarantee people in the media and around the NFL will think differently of Cam.  They will see what we see.  When you compare the talent level of say Eli Manning to Cam Newton its not even close...but Eli has won and theres a definitely separation.

I don't care who's fault it is...defense, coaching, no weapons...Cam has to win to make it to the next level.  End of story.

You must have forgotten the countless other games we lost because the defense was blowing leads in the fourth quarter, one of our retarded kickers couldn't make a 20 yard field goal, or Ron had one of his colossal brain farts.

To you and everyone that gave you PIE for your comment; no I didn't forget about any of your reminders. I only stated the one that stuck out to me that Cam could've won the game for us. I'm in no way saying that our losses were his fault. We had plenty of other problems and Cam is a very good QB, that I believe will be great, but it's time to win!

Nobody wants to win more than Cam does.

Idk if its more painful to play for a losing team or skip work to watch a losing football team. I think I want them to win to rid the triangle of these damned peckers, giants, new SF fans, and steeler fans. Get em outta here and I will be the most grateful fan of the panthers organization.

If you read those two articles side by side, you'd wonder if the respective reporters were at the same event.

Yasinskas isnt my favorite reporter, but he did a hundred times better interpreting those comments in context than Person did.

Sheesh

    • i felt good for those few games that bryce didn't look like the worst in the league. all that fell apart again sunday.  i'm borderline just bailing on it all. i've been hanging on by a thin thread for several years. i mean it's not even fun to watch any football right now.
