7/30 camp thread

Recommended Posts

It's not just pressure he is facing. It's sacks.  Tom Brady would have sucked with the way the o-line has been practicing. O-line needs to do their job so Cam can do his. It is a two-way street.

I absolutely agree with you.

But, Rivera did say that Cam was not sharp today.  So, in his mind at least some of the result was on him....as well as the OLine.

It was one practice and having an off day is not a big deal at all....and is NO reason to try and make excuses for him being off.

The pressure in the middle just magnifies the one area that Cam still has much work to improve on....quick reads and getting his feet set quickly.....and that is OK.  He is young and is still working and improving.

He is fine.

But...a franchise QB needs to be able to deliver in the face of pressure.

Rivera confirmed that Cam was not sharp today.....stop making excuses when he does not light it up.

Yea a QB should be able to throw the ball when a 300lb guy is right in his face as soon as the ball is snapped. With all-star linemen such as the great Jeff Byers, Garry Williams, and the almighty Byron Bell and Geoff Hangartner, any QB should be lucky to have these guys on their line.

he does need to work on feeling the pressure quicker and getting the ball out quicker....he has even said that.

Just becuase he had an off day (even per Rivera), he does not need more excuses by the homers in here.

It is amusing that it only took one twitter from Person discussing a Rivera comment about Cam being off today for some in here to come to Cam's "rescue".

He is a young QB with a ton of talent and potential.  He is going to have spectacular days and not so spectacular days....it is part of the process.

And no....I am not comfortable with the right side of our OL.  We need to either upgrade at RG or RT.  I think a good upgrade at one of those positions will help compensate for the other position that is avg at best.

That is all I am saying.

I really haven't seen excuses being made for him. Just that Cam is better when he gets better protection from the o-line.

i'll wait to hear from some Huddlers who were there to get a better feel of what was going on.

So in short, Cam wasn't having a bad day, though he could get better at handling inside pressure, the O-line simply was weaker today that yesterday. And when the line today could manage to fend of the defence and allow Cam time to read his progression and get his footwork right, he would hit his receivers with pinpoint precision.

Sounds like an excuse to me.

OLine was subpar today....agreed

Cam was also not sharp today (even Rivera said it)

I agree that Cam is much better when he gets better protection from the OLine....as most QB's are.

And, I 100% agree that the OLine needs to step it up and that I pray Gettlemen makes a move on at least an upgrade at either RG or RT.

But, Cam WILL take it to the next level when he progresses to the point that he feels the pressure quicker and gets it out quicker.  And, that is fine....he is still developing as a QB.

Jeremy even posted a twitter today that Cam still needs to make his reads and decisions quicker.  This is my point.....many times you don't have the opportunity to set your feet.

Cam in my QB and I am damned proud to support him....he is only going to get better.

I am not trying to make excuses for Cam. He is not my sun, moon and star and he definitely have a lot of areas where he can improve. Changing protections, reading coverages, changing plays, anticipating blitzes, skipping 1-2 player in his progressing and going straight to the 3rd or 4th guy, simply tossing the ball away to name a few. Still American Football is a team sport where you as a QB rely on your team-mates to hold up their end of the bargain in pass protection for example and that your receivers create some sort of separation from the defenders, else it becomes increasingly hard for a young QB, which Cam is, to excel.

So maybe both the O-line and Cam were having a bad day. The thing that annoys me is I cannot figure out just how good our D-line is, when it is going up against lesser competition.
