It'd be nice but are there any WR's out there thats worth it at this point? These are the top WR free agents

Brandon Lloyd

Laurent Robinson

Donald Jones

Randy Moss

Austin Collie

Deion Branch

Steve Breaston

Early Doucet

Brandon Stokley

Chad Johnson

Jabar Gaffney

Essentially combinations or old, slow, lazy and not worth the headache.

Lloyd is the only name on that list worth a look. Again, just imagine what we could have done earlier this offseason during the great wide receiver arms race that was this year's free agency period if we hadn't paid so much money to multiple players at literally the one position on the field where a guy can be stocking shelves at Food Lion one week and running for 150+ against us the next.

Sucks to hear that WR's look average when Smith is out. But to be honest it sounds to me like they need to keep practicing like that. The other WR's need to experience the full coverage of the defense without the help of Smith. Get them better prepared.

Cam has always been most bothered by pressure up through the middle.

So when they O-line today is comprised by Gross - Silatolu - Hangartner - xxx - Bell instead of Gross - Silatolu - Kalil - Hangartner/xxx - Bell which was the case yesterday, it is a pretty obvious downgrade at C and RG for todays practise. Combine that with Steve Smith also having the day off, allowing the defence to put more people in the box and in passrush and our upgrades at our interior D-line with Short and Star, the result will be a lot of pressure up the middle, which will hurt Cams accuracy. So in short, Cam wasn't having a bad day, though he could get better at handling inside pressure, the O-line simply was weaker today that yesterday. And when the line today could manage to fend of the defence and allow Cam time to read his progression and get his footwork right, he would hit his receivers with pinpoint precision.

We do need an upgrade at RG, but as others have mentioned, from a cap perspective it would be smarter to wait until we are in season and also we could pick up talented players that don't make other teams 53 man roster.

But...a franchise QB needs to be able to deliver in the face of pressure.

Rivera confirmed that Cam was not sharp today.....stop making excuses when he does not light it up.

It's not just pressure he is facing. It's sacks.  Tom Brady would have sucked with the way the o-line has been practicing. O-line needs to do their job so Cam can do his. It is a two-way street.

I'd agree with this but he makes a good point. Kalil and Smith are arguably our two best offensive players at this point and neither was on the field today. In practice, I'm sure Cam decides to pull the trigger and force passes more often than he would in a game where protecting the ball is the difference between winning and losing. I'd rather he take his lumps trying to make something happen in practice so he learns what he can and cannot get away with. Cam does need to improve on getting the ball out quicker and sharpen his decision making but in a practice without two of our best players/veterans I'm not getting worried about Cam throwing some interceptions when he would likely just throw the ball away in a game situation.

I agree with everything you said except the last bit.

I'd rather not get our asses handed to us by Seattle opening day because we wanted to save a few dollars.
