7-29 Camp Thread

Recommended Posts

If there is one thing I can draw from these early practices it is this, we have a New York Giant-esque front 4 with a Baltimore Raven-esque LB corps.  This is gonna be fun to watch.

With a Providence Day School secondary...  at least for the moment.

I am excited about this team, but the question marks at O-Line at the secondary temper my excitement.

I see 3 games I feel like right now we should win:   @Bills, @ Cardinals, & Jets

And 3 games that I feel will be difficult to win:  @Bucs, @49ers, & @Saints.

The rest are all up in the air.  I think anything from 6-10 wins is where this team falls, being realistic.

49ers @ home is going to be very tough, and while I think the whole Sean Payton coming back thing is overblown, they have been almost unbeatable at home with him at the helm.  Still think their defense is going to be atrocious.

I also think the Bucs are going to be a much better team this year than a lot of people are giving them credit for.  The questions about Josh Freeman notwithstanding, there is a lot of talent on that team.

The NFCS is going to be a dogfight.  I think a lot of national media types are underestimating the issues the Falcons have on both lines and just how bad the Saints defense truly was.

A lot also don't realize the fluky losses the Panthers had last year and how we were one of the best teams in the league down the stretch.

I will be happy if the Panthers can just make the playoffs, and hopefully win the division

It will be interesting to see who comes away as the third string tight end. Zod said Brockel was lining up as a tight end, but there is no need for Brockel and Hartsock and it would be a waste of a roster spot to carry two full backs.

I'm interested in the Nelson Rosario vs. Brandon Williams battle. It seems as if Williams was the better player today.

They really aren't that bad, seriously.  They don't have to be that good either.  Pass rush is all important.

The o-line is a concern but I'm sure the FO will get us something by the time the season starts.  Don't forget Cam is an escape artist.

Good call these are must wins if we are truly taking the next step.

Again I think the 9ers pose the most difficult task.  the bucs are a huge ? and the Saints defense is comprised of players with the caliber of being backups to our secondary.

8 wins has to be the basement for the team.  We have to find ways to get the gutsy win when we need it most.

Agree with everything except the Saints being unbeatable at home they really do suck.

Talent not withstanding they have an absolute mind fug at coach.  Freeman crumbles, The run d and pass rush does not exist.

Agree

The Division will be ours

Here is the reality of the situation; imagine you are Gettlemen:

Your OL is the weakest link and you have a franchise qb and vow to run the ball more effectively.

Your other biggest concern, arguably SS, seems to have an answer; Mitchell and Campbell are impressing the coach.

You had players take pay cuts and everyone knows there is $13 million in cap room.

Gettlemen is waiting for the right move.  I think, especially considering the reps Kugbila is missing, that we make a move for a RG.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
