Camp Observations from Reddit

So, I frequent Reddit quite a bit, and spend a good deal of my reddit time on /r/panthers. A user there by the name of Sinestro1982 was cool enough to post his observations and I figured you guys would like to read them - here's a snippet of what he said. Nothing particularity "new", but still, camp write ups are always cool to read.

 

Sinestro1982: I'm going to go ahead and open this post with something we all know, but you don't really fully understand until you see it. Ted Ginn Jr. is unbelievably fast. He was the stand-out at camp today. He'll fall under my WR category a little lower but he is the fastest person on our team. Yes, faster than Smitty.

QB: Cam looked good. He looked seasoned and naturally in tune with the flow in camp. He was looking to Lafell today as much as he was looking to Smitty. He also looked to Ginn Jr. quite a bit as well. I didn't get a good enough look at him to attest to what he has approved upon, or not improved upon in the offseason. Regardless, I'm not worried about him in the least. Clausen was garbage. Derek Anderson looked ok. He threw a pick that got comically returned through another drill by Drayton Florence. He'll, as always, be a reliable back up should (hopefully not) he be needed.

RB: Taking the spot for second fastest guy in camp goes to Kenjon Barner. He did some good work today. The O-line opened some good holes for him and he hit them naturally and he seems to have natural vision. His speed makes him so dangerous. He wasn't afraid to make contact, either. Stewart didn't practice since he'll be out for camp. Deangelo got all of the first team reps and looked fine. Tolbert blocked well and looked good in drills they ran with Cam and the running backs catching balls out in the flat. He broke a few runs, and he and Kuechly had a very nice collision in seven on seven drills in which Kuechly was the victor.

TE: Greg Olsen was the only guy that stood out to me. His routes were crisp as always. He dropped a couple of balls that would have been easy catches. None of the other TEs stood out to me at all. They weren't even looked at by Cam and they didn't run many two TE sets except for when they were on seven on seven and practicing a power run set.

WR: Like I said above: Ted Ginn Jr. is incredibly fast. I'd like to find out from Dolphins and 49ers fans if this guy is typically a camp star, because if not then I'm almost positive that he'll be our number three WR. I watched David Gettis as much as I could and I saw more bad than good. He didn't get many looks when he was on the field. He made a few catches, but dropped more than he made. He got two nice deep balls but couldn't pull them in and appeared to get injured on one. He was shaken up a bit, but fine shortly after. I'm not optimistic about him being used a lot which is disappointing. I hope he was just having a bad day. Hixon is a lazy route runner. His routes aren't crisp and he seems to lope during his cuts. He didn't catch much, but that's because there weren't many balls thrown his way. None of the other WRs on the roster stood out at all. Smitty was Smitty. Josh Thomas tried to lay the wood on Smitty when he caught a ball over the middle. He made contact, Smitty obviously was unfazed and maintained possession, and got up, looked at Josh Thomas, and spun the ball on the ground. Smitty was Smitty....

Yeah from I've read he's improved. As you said though, to each their own - I'll soak up as much TC write ups as I can get considering I can't see it myself.

I wouldn't go that far, but he did sign my sons jersey so he gets props for that. Ruined the jersey but still cool of him to do.

Not liking what I'm hearing on Hixon. Many here had him immediately penciled in as the #3.

I did too. I noted that in my observations. His release is definitely longer now, but damn, the dude has got some zip on the ball when throws now. Something I've not seen from him before.

Pickles looked good except for the fact he would have taken the most sacks of all the QBs

Apparently the author got a hug from Cam too.

And when he got to me, he signed my hat and I said: "I mean, we could hug." He looked at me, wrapped his gigantic arm around me, pulled me close to him, wrapped his other arm around me, patted me on the back and embraced me for 20 seconds. I whispered in his ear that I would call him. THEN, as he was releasing me, he purposefully smeared his sweaty practice face on my right cheek, even getting some on my glasses. What I am telling you was witnessed by about 40 people. I am in no way shape or form making this up. If anyone EVER questions his character, or brings up that they've heard he's a jerk, etc, you tell them this story. You tell them that Cam hugged a moderately overweight 31 year old male fan simply because he asked.

I know he's an experienced veteran (ugh I hate saying it) running with the 3s, but what you said, plus he seemed to have timing down pat. I think it was a pass to Joe Adams over the middle, between two LBers, and hit Adams in stride. I know a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes, but It was an impressive throw.

What Zod said is also true - when his first option isn't there, he is still slow going through his progressions.
