The mistake that will come back to haunt us MKG over Barnes?

YOLO!

Before the draft, I wanted Barnes.  That hasnt changed.  Sure Im a UNC fan but Barnes oozes with potential and he showed some signs of it last year.  Its jsut a matter of time before he becomes a legit scorer in this league.

I love MKG, but his offense scares me.  I think if we surround him with scorers and let him become what he is, a defensive stopper, then I will be thrilled we got him.  Right now though, that jumper...eek.  Hope we arent dependng on it, but there is no denying that he put up better #s than Barnes and MKG himself has sky potential.

Yes, it's very easy to look at it that way in hopes of having something to believe in. But, in reality Barnes is the better player at this point and MKG has shown very little to be on the same level with Barnes. "Long term"? How long will it be? It doesnt look like it's going to be this upcoming season. I really think MKG is still a project who needs developing the next 2-3 years. Though, no one really knows if he is even going to reach that "potential" we all Bobcats fans think he will; i.e. Bismack Biyombo.

You trolling or wha

In hindsight, of course I regret passing up on Barnes/Drummond for MKG.

The Mistakes:

2012: MKG over Barnes/Drummond

2011: Biyombo over Kawhi/Thompson

2009: Hendo over Jrue Holiday

2008: DJ over Lopez/Hibbert

2007: Brandan Wright over Noah

2006: Morrison over Roy/Gay

I feel confident that we have actually got it right with Cody Zeller this year.

Oh man, that is a mighty ugly list to look at... Zero stars and a bunch of busts taken over All Stars / future All Stars.

MKG and Biz were the 1st and 9th youngest players in the league last year. People that know nothing about development of course would compare them to guys who spent multiple years in college refining their game and are 22+. We drafted these guys for upside and because we had time to wait before we needed immediate contributions. MKG had the 29th best season in NBA history by a teenager last season by the metrics I posted the other day. Nobody here cares. It's like talking into a wind tunnel. Nobody will recognize how good he can be until he actually gets there and then people will claim they've been on his team the whole time.

The only people expecting unreasonable things for MKG are casual fans who haven't ever seen a teenager develop in the NBA. Remember Jermaine O'Neal? How about Al Harrington? Josh Smith? It took all those guys at least 3 years in the NBA to show as much as MKG has already. Yet people are still trashing MKG's development. Buy a clue.

Imagine if this was us:

PG: Jrue Holiday

SG: Brandon Roy (assuming healthy)

SF: Kawhi Leonard

PF: Joakim Noah

C : Roy Hibbert

But we can only imagine.

Give me Rudy Gay over Roy, add Kemba from last year cause obviously we still have him, and then give me Ben McLemore at the SG position from this past draft. That team is money.

Wat?

Rudy Gay over a healthy Brandon Roy?

MJ is that you?

Brandon Roy was a top 3 sg when he was healthy. He was only behind Kobe/Wade when he was healthy.

Yea but I'm assuming that we wouldn't be in a position to take guys like Kemba, MKG, and McLemore if we had those guys already (Roy, Holiday, Noah, Hibbert). I had Leonard bc he was the 15th pick.

At some point we have to check the water at some peoples houses.

It like numbers are a foreign language to some people.

I'm going to post this again so some people can take the time to read it and rethink their dumbass opinions.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/6601/michael-kidd-gilchrist

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/6578/harrison-barnes

And Game logs

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/6578/harrison-barnes

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/6601/michael-kidd-gilchrist

After reading these 4 pages you can't keep saying the dumbest poo over and over again.

A few things that were brought up in this thread that should be answered.

1. They played the same amount of time and took the same amount of shots a game.

So there should not be anybody saying MKG had more time and took more shots because it just isn't true.

2. Barnes loses in every category but scoring (By .2) and 3pt %. There is more to the game then 2 categories if you actually know basketball. MKG is suppose to be the raw offensive player but he even shot a higher % from the field.

3. The Notion MKG can't be a Point-Forward. Have you never seen him play???

True people with B-ball Knowledge can see a player able to get a rebound bring the ball up the court with his head up and find open teammates or run a play. That is being a point-forward.

4. If you play with Curry and Klay and Lee and even Bogut you get a lot of open shots. MKG didn't have that Luxury. With Jefferson and Zeller we will have a better look at MKG offensive game.

5. We say Barnes is a better Scorer but the game logs "clearly show" MKG had more double digit game and 20 point games. So Barnes is the better jump shooter but MKG was the better scorer this season.

Should be reposted on each new page. Pg 15
