Does that sound like "OK, Gett, I'll take one for the team this year, but you'd better go out and get this team some help with that money!" or is it just me?

I have to think this is ttrue.  I also look at players like Gross.  It looks as though Gettlemen is doing what he can to offset Hurney's insecure idiocy.

We have made some great, low-budget acquisitions (Blackburn, Hixon, Moore, Mitchell, Ginn, Florence) and re-signed some good players (Munnerlyn, Hartsock, Edwards) to give ourselves a fighting chance.  But the most significant thing Gettlemen has done is get the ridiculous contracts under control.  While doing all of the above, the Panthers cut their cap figure almost $30 million (+$16m to -$13m) .  That is incredible.

gettleman  can negotiate contracts a hell of a lot better than hurney thats for sure

Take a look at this year alone.

he would have re-signed Edwards and Munnerlyn to ridiculous deals, not allowing them to hit the market.   The money Gettlemen saved by allowing them to go fishing, and by not jumping into free agency with a fistful of dollars, allowed for some quality players to be signed at a bargain price.

Let's not discount the draft.  I know it is too early, but solidifying the middle of the Defense should pay off in a big way.  When was the last time Marty drafted a good DT?  Um, never, I think.  But what he did at the bottom of the draft with the fifth and sixth picks told me that he is a visionary.  People were outraged when we signed a RB.  Now Stewart is banged up again and DWill is 30.   I can see both players off the roster in 2014.

If Gettlemen does this again next year, we will be one of the most feared teams in the league.  We might be now.

Gettleman doesn't play favorites and you have to love it. Beason did the right thing, and probably saw the writing on the wall.

We can designate [x] amount of cap room to roll over which will be HUGE next year when we have to start re-negotiating some more of Hurney's mess + Cam + Kraken.

TBH, best case scenario, Kraken takes a very small step back but Frank Alexander steps up, thus minimizing what Kraken would make or demand in a contract year. (Please don't kill me Kraken for saying this...lol)

Feels good to have someone semi-competent in charge of the franchise for once!
