They estimated it was 50 years old.

 

 

It ate an 80lb dog, which prompted the killing.

 

 

I understand why they killed it, it was a hazard, but that's a real shame.

There are plenty of gator farm tourist attractions that would have loved to have had him. They didn't need to kill it. So he ate a dog, thats what gators do.

I would have liked to have seen them not kill it too, but how the fug do you capture a 500 lb gator?  Not saying it couldn't have been done... maybe tranquilizers or something, idk...

If you can tranquilize elephants, hippos, rhinos, etc, you can tranq a gator and move it somewhere safer.  I'm sure everyone got all excited about hunting it down and didn't care about anything else.  Gators have to eat, and the dog was food, not its fault.

Man that's sad they killed it.  What a shame, although if it ate my dog I would want to kill it too.

Meh, there are plenty of alligators now, no sense in wasting the money to relocate it. It had become a nuisance animal. If it was bold enough to ****** an 80 lb. dog, then it could just as easily have snatched a 50 lb. child.

 

Best part of the video is in the last seconds you can hear one of the rednecks hauling it off saying, "That's dinner right thar!"

I really misread the thread title at first.  I thought 12,500 lbs alligator, like one of them cheesy syfy movies.  :)
