I will never forgive Ron Rivera for two things.

I don't find it hard to say at all.  Those guys would have won more, because they're better. :)

Better now or when they came into the NFL?  I don't think anyone of them were available when we picked Rivera so what is your point?  How many of them other than Tomlinson had a rookie quarterback their first year?  And he had the number 1 defense on his side.  I don't think any of those guys you mentioned had as hard a row to hoe as Rivera.  I also think people forget in his first year he did improve the team by 4 games which was huge.  it was really the second year which was the problem not his first.

I think they were all better when they became head coaches.  That's pretty cut and dry.  Rivera has not been a good coach so far.  You can make excuse after excuse for him (and you have!), but he just hasn't gotten it done yet.

I like and respect you, but I really think that you're trying a little too hard to sell here.  I'm a homer, and Rivera's the coach, and therefore I hope he does really well.  I just don't think that he's as good as any of the coaches I mentioned, and I bet that secretly, you don't either.  You just don't want to say so. :)

some people don't realize the affect a great "football guy" GM can have on a head coach.

it is all about infrastructure and the communication and it all starts at the top. Like any job in the country.

That's another good topic for another thread--how much the GM/Coach combo means.  Obviously Hurney/Fox was more effective than Hurney/Rivera.  Maybe you should look at how well losing coaches have done when a new GM comes in and allows them to stay, it might be encouraging. :)

Speaking in terms of Gettleman. The reason why I'm so excited is not only the clear cut path he wants this team on and has delivered thus far in terms of draft picks but getting a boss and employee together in the room getting on the same page of what direction they want to take that team is more than encouraging. It usually leads to a successful workplace.

When you have a guy that knows football as well or similar to the head coach, good things should come from that.

Now it is up to Rivera to make those right in game decisions that he and Gettleman and other coaches have discussed. But we are headed in the right direction.

And I think that you are trying too hard to put all the blame on him. I don't think he had the talent when he  got here those other coaches had and virtually no time to prepare due to the lockout.  Harbaugh by contrast had a much more talented team with a veteran quarterback.  Don't you remember all the proclamations in 2011 about how hard it was going to be on  rookie coaches with rookie quarterbacks. I guess in an effort to pile on, everyone seems to forgotten that.  It was really his second year where the team was subpar and disappointed after huge expectations.

This is the second season where he had a full off-season to prepare and the first where he has a GM who can help him and actually knows football.

So I am optimistic that this will be the year we break through despite the toughest schedule in the NFL again.  What you call excuses I call realities.

No one's trying "put all the blame on" Rivera. We're just pointing out, that he hasn't been a great/good (or even average) head coach so far, based off numerous on and off field examples, the past two years. It's that simple.

I too, am hoping, that the effect of Gettlemen will prompt Rivera into being a good coach. Cause I don't feel Gettlemen will put up with a lot of the nonsense (such as taking the air out the ball, with any 2 TD lead, regardless of how early in the game it is) we've seen the past two seasons.

What my perception tells me is that some people think Rivera is a great coach, on par or better than all the winning coaches in the league, but is sadly a victim of many unfortunate circumstances which, in a perfect storm, have come together to make him look mediocre at best.

And some people think that Rivera is mediocre at best.

As long as you don't include  me into those some people then you might be  right.  But I don't think he is great or on par with a bunch of guys who have won a Superbowl with the exception of Smith.  I think he was a rookie coach who was thrown in here with no offseason with some talented guys and a bunch others who shouldn't even be playing in the NFL. When injuries hit we had no depth and it showed.   Despite that the offense was very prolific despite a pretty sad defense. Over his 2 years he has been given more talent which is now on par which most teams in his division and the NFL and has a GM who can help him. He has made mistakes and grown. Now in his third year he is ready to put up or shut up.

That is my perception.

The fuging embarrassment of having John Fox and his crew come in a kick our asses. It was just a damn shame. And that soft coverage poo vs Chicago. This is why I believe Ron will not be our coach next year. He is a very good guy, and hell of a defensive coach, but he just doesn't have the necessary head coaching skills to succeed at an consistent rate. It happens to be a reason he was passed up 10 times for an Head Coaching position.

Cool you had an opinion and decided to start a thread about it. Lucky for you nobody bashed you for having an opinion.
