New Phone

I've got the Galaxy Nexus, and I feel just like Bill Hader in those new commercials, counting down the day until I can get an upgrade. I have learned a lot from my first smart phone.

I'm getting the Blackberry Q10. I NEED a keyboard in the worst way. I cannot stand typing on a touch screen. And the thought of 13.5 hours of talk time on a single charge just made me jizz a little bit. Seriously, what's the point of having a super speed phone with a full complement of apps if your charge only lasts 6 hours???

I'm done with the trendy smart phones. Give me my good old reliable, boring Blackberry again, and all the fun stuff I'll just get a tablet for.

I can't speak to personal experience with any of the above phones, but I've done a fair bit of research in the new phones because I'm close between the One and the S4.  Here's my quick high notes for the S4 and One:

S4 - Great screen, super fast parts, SD card, and good software if that's your thing, and good camera.

One - very good screen, almost super fast parts, great overall performance, neat software if that's your thing, and great low light camera.

iPhone - it's an iPhone.  If you've used one in the past several years, it's going to be pretty much the same.  When iOS 7 hits, things will get interesting...that's a maybe though.

My dark horses are the new Motorola phones.  I'm currently on a Razr (2011), which I've really appreciated much more since 4.2.2 was given to me.  The new features on the Moto lines are pretty sweet, but they aren't flagship hardware specs.  Then again, they might be better than the sum of their parts.

I will say this is a great time to be in the market for a new phone.  Tons of great options.  Good luck!  And for anyone who's going to be choosing soon!

Something interesting I read on engadget today:  At target you can get a GS4 for $140 on a 2 year contract.  That might be nice to someone around here.

I'm interested to see the full review of the new Droid line.  The Moto X (which has a lot of the same parts as the droid lineup) has been well reviewed.  I'm interested to see how their x8 processor arraignment works in the other phones.  Will they be as fast and smooth?  I look forward to seeing those reviews.

Verizon has pushed the Droid Maxx back to 8-27 release date.  Not sure whether people who pre-ordered one will still get it on the 20th like they said before.

I don't want to buy one without doing some hands on... plus I want to see if people really get the battery life out of it that they're claiming.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update... Been doing a lot of research on phones... Narrowed it down to the GS4 and the Droid Maxx. Played with the Maxx several times at Verizon and took the plunge yesterday.

I've played with it all day today and its sitting at 70% battery at almost 10PM. Love it.

cool, good to hear.  when my upgrade is ready I'm looking at the Maxx, X or the HTC one.

Nice! Enjoy that EPIC battery life! I'm curious how the camera works in real life, and how the x8 chip set functions over the life of a real use.

Congrats! I still can't make a choice. At least I have until December to see what goes on sale.
