NBA Board Of Governors Approves Name Change To Hornets!

Recommended Posts

A few tidbits of USA Today and NBA.com

“We’re thrilled to bring back the Hornets to Charlotte and the Carolinas,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment Chairman Michael Jordan. “The passion and enthusiasm around this name change by fans in this market has been unmatched. They overwhelmingly told us what they wanted, we listened and we couldn’t be happier with the Board of Governors’ approval of the name change. With the young team we are developing on the court, the direction of our business and the return of the Hornets name, we are extremely excited about our future. The Buzz is Back!” NBA.com

With the approval of the Hornets name, the next steps in the transition to the new name will be developing the team’s NBA brand identity, including color schemes, logos and uniform designs. No timeline has been established for when these elements will be unveiled. NBA.com

When NBA Commissioner David Stern first started hearing the requests of Charlotte Bobcats fans that the league give them their old 'Hornets' name back, he admits he didn't take the idea seriously."I sort of laughed at it initially," he said. "You know, it is what it is, get over it." USA Today Sports

"It stayed there, bubbling below the surface, and there is something to it," Stern said. "I think that the team is going to receive support from fans who think that this is a step in the direction that the fans have been asking for, and this is an attempt to both satisfy the fans and its accompanied by a kind of very specific market research that allows the Hornets to say, yes, this is what the market is asking for and they're very much serving their market by making this change." USA Today Sports

One thing that stood out to me was Stern's dickish comment telling the fans to "get over it"... That kind of shows how much he cares about our franchise. You would think that he would realize that it would be good for business to get Charlotte their name back.

If you go to the splash page for bobcats.com, they've taken the in question "teal" color out and it is just purple and white for now. i mentioned in another thread that if they wanted to do any changes, that would be the change to do. concentrate more on the purple part of the color scheme with the teal as the accent

Lol no problem, I just see them tweeted and if they're not bad (which they usually aren't unless it's the one's that were questioning the rebrand), then I figure why not share them with the rest of Hornets Nation.
