Cam still a Falcon fan

That's all fine and good. but that still doesn't negate anything that I said.

I have never ever said that Cam doesn't give his all. Ever! My point was not about Cam's effort, it was about having tact when asked potentially provocative questions. On some level, having tact, and getting the big picture---particularly as a public figure or representative of group speaks to prudence and wisdom (and, some might argue, maturity).

I am a Cam supporter, and always have been, but I'm still gonna call it like I see it (when and/or if the notion strikes me).

The guy literally gets criticized about everything, even the most minuscule of subjects or details. It appears no matter what he says or does on or off the field, it will simply never be correct in a lot of individuals eyes.

Which is why he COULD have kept quiet.

But since be didn't, whatever. Kudos for honesty and all that. Not like he wouldn't be getting criticized about something else anyway.

This thread needs to die.

I used to hate UNC simply because everyone else around here loved them so much on a stupid bandwagon/fairweather status, while I was the lone UConn fan.

The day I went to my first UNC sporting event, I was a diehard and have been since.

Granted, if we were to play UConn, I'm not sure I'd be able to go and actively cheer for either team in any sport. So I feel Cam. Panthers should still be his favorite team, but he should be able to like the other as well.

I agree, but that's why I believe he'd be better served by showing a little wisdom.  Right or wrong, Cam is a public figure, and a young man who the media has not necessarily been fair or kind to for whatever the reasons...Anyway, he has to know his situation and realize that scrutiny of him just comes with the territory of being Cam Newton.  I am not saying that he has to kowtow to media and public expectations for him, he just has to understand the dynamics and act accordingly if he wants to lessen the bullshit.

That's what I would tell my own son.

Not a big deal, since he's from Atlanta. I would expect him to be a Falcons fan, just like Julius Peppers has stated he's still a Panthers fan.

Lol, I bet Cam has a Falcon fitted hat somewhere in his stash of hats.

So what do you want him to do, lie? I would much rather him just be himself and honest. Which he was.

I don't really understand why you are blowing his response out of proportion. You're beginning to sound like the people who were twisting his words around when he answered a question about becoming a captain.

Let's trade Cam for Marr Ryan. Cam is a Falcons fan, and Ryan has a signed Panthers jersey. Do the deal Gettleman...

Joke aside, I don't care who he supports as long as he does his best for this team, stays loyal to it, and helps us win the super bowl. I'm sure plenty of players here and elsewhere support other teams than the one they play for.

whats the big deal? as long as he is ready to play when the whistle blows, who cares. i doubt there are many players that dont pull for their hometown team. it would seem that cam saying he still has a soft spot for the team he grew up watching, would be way down the list of things for panther fans to be worried about. i wish everybody would just leave cam alone, and judge him for his on field performance, instead of perceived  disloyalty for being a falcon fan since he was a kid.

I'll grant you that sometimes Newton can be his own worst enemy.

That said, I think "unwise" is a tad strong for this story. Ill-timed perhaps - given the Kaepernick ruckus - but I don't see this as showing a lack of wisdom.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
