Did you even bother to read the OP at all? It was a question in an interview for an Atlanta newspaper after a charitable event he had just held for kids at a YMCA in Atlanta. It's not like he randomly held a press conference.

I have already alluded to the fact that I think that the story is overblown. As for wisdom, we'll just have to agree to disagree. You, just like everyone else knows the history of Cam and the media and the fans. I really don't have to spell it out. Within that context I don't think that it will hurt Cam to tell him to be on his guard.

If you're just talking about a general "watch what you say", yeah he needs to hear that. To be fair, most guys his age do (repeatedly).

I just don't have any real problem with his statement here. Heck, if you asked every NFL player what team they cheered for growing up, I'd predict the percentage of those actually saying it was the team they wound up playing for would be in single digits. And quite possibly low single digits at that.

I know you're smart enough to know childhood fan choices won't affect his professional play, though I don't necessarily give every fan credit for being that intelligent.

Decided to give this thread a read, and I couldn't tell if we were talking about Cam Newton or Aaron Hernandez from some of the nasty comments.

 

The butthurt is strong in this thread.

 

I guess we might as well tank and try to draft Teddy Bridgewater sense Cam has a favorite football team...

Let's take a moment to remember, despite everything that happened last season, that we still have a potential GOAT playing QB for us right now if he keeps up at his current pace.  I think we take that for granted sometimes after everything that's transpired... but damn it feels good to stop and think about what the future might hold with this young man under center.

 

Cam's potential scares the hell outta' me, and I don't give a fug if he grew up in Atlanta, New Orleans, or in fuging Bangkok for that matter.  He's the Carolina Panthers' quarterback and that's the only thing that matters.
