Cam still a Falcon fan

I agree, but that's why I believe he'd be better served by showing a little wisdom.  Right or wrong, Cam is a public figure, and a young man who the media has not necessarily been fair or kind to for whatever the reasons...Anyway, he has to know his situation and realize that scrutiny of him just comes with the territory of being Cam Newton.  I am not saying that he has to kowtow to media and public expectations for him, he just has to understand the dynamics and act accordingly if he wants to lessen the bullshit.

That's what I would tell my own son.

Lying about something that has literally no significant isn't wisdom

Why would he be a Panther's fan?  A large portion of the fanbase call him "Scam" Newton and criticize everything he says and does (see:  this thread), and the local media drills him over a routine autograph session and prints hello kitty cartoons degrading him.

maybe because thats the team he plays for.maybe because thats the team that invested millions in him. maybe because thats the team that he has gone into battle for 32 times with teammates that he has gone into battle with. the negative comments thrown his way have been minimal compared to what he would have experienced in other nfl cities. he's the leader of the team, playing the toughest position on the field, he ought to be able to handle it. quarterbacks are always criticized until they win big, they didnt like bradshaw in pittsburg till he started winning championships. to ask why would he be a panthers fan because he has faced some adverse treatment is pretty weak. a big part of being a great qb is having thick skin.

Stupid comment by Cam and he's going to catch flak for it. Especially stupid given that every player in the NFL was recently reminded of this with Kaep and the Dolphins' pic.

People here will defend Cam, but it was a stupid comment.

It bothers me that the face of our franchise says he loves the Falcons. I got no problem with him liking them. But it doesn't need to be said. It doesn't need to be a front page article on NFL.Com. These are the sort of missteps Cam makes in the media. He doesn't understand what is ok to say to your family and what is ok to say to Adam Schefter. We are trying to build one of the toughest rivalries in sports with the Falcons and Cam is not being a part of that. This is the sort of thing that separates him from his teammates. When CJ got his ass kicked by the Falcons following his hat incident he said he hated the Falcons and would work his tail off to beat them every year. That is the message we want to send.

Luke Kuechly saying he watched the Bengals when he was kid was a non issue compared to this. He never said "I root for them when we don't play". They aren't in our division. They aren't finishing first in the division as we finish 2nd. The Bengals aren't located off the same Interstate as us 5 hours apart.

I just chose Luke to show what is normal and acceptable apposed to what Cam did.

Lying about something that has literally no significant isn't wisdom

It obviously does have some significance to some people, otherwise it would not have made the news. If you say it's not wisdom, that's your choice.

I'll grant you that sometimes Newton can be his own worst enemy.

That said, I think "unwise" is a tad strong for this story. Ill-timed perhaps - given the Kaepernick ruckus - but I don't see this as showing a lack of wisdom.

I have already alluded to the fact that I think that the story is overblown. As for wisdom, we'll just have to agree to disagree. You, just like everyone else knows the history of Cam and the media and the fans. I really don't have to spell it out. Within that context I don't think that it will  hurt Cam to tell him to be on his guard.

So what do you want him to do, lie? I would much rather him just be himself and honest. Which he was.

I don't really understand why you are blowing his response out of proportion. You're beginning to sound like the people who were twisting his words around when he answered a question about becoming a captain.

I am not blowing his response out of proportion at all. Like I said in my OP, I really don't think it's a big deal at all, but that doesn't mean that someone doesn't.  Furthermore, I haven't really addressed Cam's words, so to insinuate that I am twisting his words is far fetched (and, basically, trying to twist my words).

As for Cam lying I have already posted what I would have had Cam say in that situation, and how someone can find fault with me saying that Cam probably should have just said that he is a Panthers fan is beyond me. I have already answered your question.  Now, it didn't get by me that you never answered mine. But, to each his own.

It seems like some of you are trying to blow what I said out of proportion, but, like I said, to each his own.

The shoes celebrities wear makes the news. That isn't significant no matter what idiots say. And it's not my choice, the definition of wisdom says it has nothing to do with Cam saying he is a Falcons fan
