Is Coleman worth a look in the supplemental draft?

Recommended Posts

Nah. We missed the boat last year when we didn't put our straw into the hat for Josh Gordon. He is gonna be a real gamer.

We would have had to bid our 1st to win Gordon, as Cleveland had the higher 2nd round pick, which would have meant missing out on Star Lotulelei. I'm happy with the way things turned out.

We would've had to place a 1st on him to get him. The Browns placed a 2nd. If we would've placed a 2nd on him the Browns still would've gotten him because of the record.......Star or Gordon? I'd still have to go Star on that one.

Judging by the trouble he's in already, I believe we dodged a bullet with Gordon. He'll likely wash out of the league a few years from now.

I don't blame you guys. It's easy to say that now, but Gordon is a special talent. I watched him a couple of games. But, again, hopefully we got the better deal.

PF, I don't know why you're saying that he'll likely wash out. From all reports, he has pretty much been the model citizen. He took some cough medicine with some codeine. There are much more egregious things than that.  Personally, I think he's gonna be a great one provided that they get a great one to throw him the ball.

I don't see Coleman going in the first round (stiff; shaky hands). I think he'll get picked up in the second round.

That said, I want our front office to double-dip on WRs in the upcoming draft. Matthews and Coleman would make me very happy.

G-man has shown that he isn't afraid to double dip. I haven't done my homework yet on the up and coming WRs (hell, there's another season to go), but wouldn't WRs in rounds 1 and 2 be something? I like it.

I'd rather go WR/OT or vice versa depending on where the best value is, but we'll see.

With Gordon, it's not the fact that he drank some sizzurp to get suspended. It's the fact that he doesn't have the sense to realize that he ALREADY got his second chance with Cleveland and he didn't realize then and there that he needs to stop being a damn fool so he can make millions? Uh, I'd take that deal.

Talent aside, I don't like players like that because they're a dime a dozen. You're gonna have to pay him anyways, may as well pay someone else that's just as good but not as stupid. Don't like to give bad character good money.

The Giants just signed Victor Cruz to a 5-year, $43 million deal.  If that means they cut Hakeem Nicks loose after this year and Gett can find the cap room to sign him, we need to go LT with the #1 pick next year.

That is my fap-worthy dream.

The Giants aren't gonna let Nicks just walk. He'll get the tag.

If we end up picking in the 20s, I rather not go after a LT. I would prefer a wide receiver to be honest.

That tag will be awfully expensive. Gmen also need to get a deal worked out with JPP. I think that may take priority.

I think its $11 million is they franchise him. That is a lot to have in a WR who is not your #1.

I'd love to have him, and with Gettlemen here and Nicks being from here, there is a chance. But as always I think someone will just pay him more then we will be willing to.

    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
    • I didn't say I would have done it. I was just saying that I can see why some in the FO considered it. Everything was done to give Bryce weapons. Solidify the interior line thru FA. Get XL at WR in round 1 and then get the most talented RB in round 2. Take a TE in round 4, etc They were probably "assuming" he'd make a complete recovery during the 2024 season. I'm a skeptical person. I wouldn't have assumed he'd be ok in 2024. I personally would have taken another position in the 2nd for that very reason. But, if I were "influenced" to take him I would've argued to keep him off the field, especially seeing how things were going for us record wise. Conventional Wisdom says most backs don't get back to normal until two years after the ACL surgery. He was injured in Fall 2023. Having him suit up in 2025 would have been almost 2 years since the original injury. You have him for 3 year on low contract. If he balls out, you resign him for a couple of more years b/c he'd only have 3 years of tread on the tires. If he's ok but not great you let him walk.
