Colin Kaepernick to 49'ers fans: FU

Ugh. May as well move this thread to the tinderbox now. I've been called a cracker, I laughed. It's not remotely comparable to someone being called the N word. Cracker doesn't have a long appalling irreversible history with it.

Where do I go to find this Racism Grading System you seem to be familiar with?

So some racism is "funny" and OK? And some isn't?

Is it OK with you if I find all examples of racism abhorrent? You can approve of the "funny" racism if you wish.

The more I think about this, the more I appreciate the irony that one group of people are really worked up because they care a lot about the symbolism of the hat and don't really get the fashion, and one group of people are worked up because they care a lot about the fashion of the hat and don't really get the symbolism.

The question really comes down to, is a team hat primarily an expression of fashion or a symbolic representation of a team? I say primarily because I think it's clearly a bit of both. I think the trouble here is that Colin clearly is only concerned about the fashion aspect and doesn't really understand why people who only see the symbolic aspect are so worked up.

In short, what Colin should have done is said something like:

"I appreciate the concern from fans about me wearing Dolphin's hat the other day. To me, it was a fashion accessory which happened to fit the look I was going for. I understand how not everyone views it this way. So rest assured, I meant no disrespect to my team, my city, or our fans. Being the QB for the 49ers has been my dream since I was 9 years old. I feel truly blessed to be a part of this organization, and I've got love for all of y'all."

Instead he went with:

This the hat y'all mad at? I'm goin wear what I want regardless of what you think

I just checked...the 49ers do have a white hat. So that excuse would have been BS.

Honkey and Cracker are funny. If we had been beaten, chained, shipped across ocean, beaten, forced to work, beaten more, refused equal opportunities and treated as subhumans or rounded up and put to work in concentration camps while being starved and branded and likely put to death while being called Honkey or Cracker then I might not think it was funny. But that hasn't happend to us Honkeys and Crakcers so I think it's pretty funny.

Please point out where I said all racism was okay or funny, because I did not.

My response of laughter was to the absurdity of it. That word has no attachment to history. It barely even registers with me. Can you not comprehend how vastly different this would be if you were black and called the N word?

You sure are going out of your way to be offended here. You poor thing. The injustice!!!!

so I'm ignorant because my opinion doesn't match your opinion?  Too bad, so sad I suppose

it's only some that consider thug to be a racial term by the way...look up the webster's definition...

: a brutal ruffian or assassin

so yes...in my ignorant opinion of the word thug...Capone would be one

So you call DCK out for using the word stereotyping, when Kaepernick is clearly being stereotyped.  Then you basically defend ol dude who called him a thug, then post a definition of the word thug, and Kaep is clearly not a ruffian or assassin.

KT was right about a lot of things on this board.  Too bad he got clapped for speaking the truth.

Couldn't he have picked niner's colors for shoes if that coordinating thing was so important?

I interned and did a co-op for Honda Manufacturing.  So since I worked for Honda, I was supposed to drive a Honda; even if I'm not a particular fan of Honda cars?

Man, ya'll get out of here with all that.  He can wear whatever he wants to wear.

People in here are getting upset because Kaep is wearing a Dolphins cap?

Holy crap! Where?

Strangely enough, people react to other people.

Football fans react to football players.

Confusing for you, I know.  Just understand that when you're the face of a franchise, you're judged on a very much higher level.  Just ask Cam.

And the most childish reaction to being called out on anything is the classic teenage "You're not the boss of me! I'll do what I want!"

You sure will, Colin... you sure will.  I hope you KEEP doing it.

the bottom line is this:

some people find the word offensive, especially when you label somebody who has a degree from the University of Nevada in business management and has no trouble from the law, set up his own charity and appears to be an ok dude.  There are racial connotations to the word thug that are similar to the N word in some people's mind.  There is a terrible history behind the word. I know you didn't say it, but that is why people don't like it.

the word honkey has no known origin. there is no history behind it. Someone just decided it was offensive. literally no white people i know are offended by it. i don't see why anybody would be.

what he said about wearing the hat after the fact was stupid though.
