Charlotte Bobcats 2013 Las Vegas Summer League Thread

Biz was actually quite productive in the few minutes he played today.

I think the key to Biz is that you have to find him in a spot where all he has to do is catch and shoot.

If you're asking him to catch, dribble, and shoot; then you are asking for too much.

He's just not coordinated enough to do that.

It's the part in bold that bothers me.  An organization as elite as the NBA, I have to believe there is a 6'9" guy somewhere with the ability to catch a ball and not fumble out of bounds, dribble off his foot, or travel.  I just feel he lacks such basic fundamentals, it's almost an embarrassment.

I agree, and it's simple; the coaches will need to put him in a place where he can succeed (coming off the bench and spending most of his time in the paint)... or move on from him and cut your losses.

Biz has 2 problems working against him. And I can tell you coordination is not the problem. You can tell by the way he blocks shots and runs the floor that he has no problem with coordination. His problems are:

1) Experience

2) Thinking too much

As far as experience, yes, he has had 2 years in the NBA and a little before that, but that's not enough for someone as raw as Biz. He goes out and expects to get rebounds and is rarely fed the ball. Thus, he looks on P&R, and other situations, to go straight to the basket for the rebound. Have Kemba and other guys feed him a ton and help Biz get used to it. As of right now, his muscle memory and instincts tell him to go straight for the basket and get the rebound. He needs to learn to look for the ball first, then go for the board.

Then, it comes to thinking too much. You can tell by how long it takes him to start his move in the post that he is not comfortable and is analyzing the defense and deciding what to do. But he doesn't make a definitive move. Instead, he second-guesses himself and hesitates. This also happens when he catches the ball and is not sure whether to put it on the floor or go straight up with it. This will also come with experience but will be more difficult than learning just to look for the ball and be ready for the catch. He actually has solid, smooth moves, but he hesitates too much because he isn't sure what to do.

Coordination certainly is a problem...

Anyone that has seen him play can tell you that his hand eye is terrible. He might be one of the worst dribblers in the NBA and he really struggles catching the ball. He is rarely fed the ball because most of the guys realize by now that he won't catch it. There have been times when he can't even catch the pass from the ref when he is shooting free throws.

If you want to see someone with coordination, watch Cody Zeller, then watch Biz. If running means you have good coordination, then everyone besides Stephen Hawking has good coordination.

I will give you that he does over-think... you can see that by the way he crouches down and holds the ball in the paint waiting to think of what to do.

But to say that he is coordinated is ridiculous.

I had my one night of the week at the gym running pickup, so I missed the game tonight, but from reading the comments here in the thread and looking up the stats, my impressions:

1) I don't know why everyone was so hard on Dyson. I thought he looked good with a few mistakes here and there in the first few games, but tonight he showed out - 21 points, 9 assists. I'd rather sign him then pursue Tinsley for the 3rd PG spot.

2) I was really hoping we could find a spot for Skeen, and although he shot well tonight, that plus/minus is disgusting.

3) Pat Jr. played a good game and I suspect he's going to make it on the team because our front office is all about some family, lol.

4) Cody is gonna kill it this year. It just seems so easy for him, and he makes things happen.
