Gimme Philip Rivers of a couple years ago, and you could make an argument that he's better than Newton. Rivers lately?  Not so much.  Waiting to see if he returns to form under their new system.

 

As to the remainder of those ranked ahead of Newton...

 

- I'm not comfortable putting any of the rookies that high.  Too much still unknown.  Talk to me in two years.  Jury's still out on Kaepernick too,

 

- Guys I'll give you as better than Newton without argument (for the moment): Rodgers, Brady, Brees, both Mannings.  

 

- Stafford, Ryan, Schaub, Romo, Cutler and Roethlisberger are all guys I consider overrated.You'd have to talk me into ranking them all that high.  Honestly I'm not that big a Flacco fan, but I know I'll get an argument on that.

Im not a troll Red. I am someone who looks at Panthers AND Cam objectively. I know thats real hard for some of you but not for me. Cam is not respected in the NFL and its his own fault. Remember, he wanted to be an icon...an entertainer, instead of a team leading qb. It was always about him, not the team. Thats why he has so much negative publicity. If Cam wants to be a captain then he should stop showing his underoo's above his pants, take the price tags off his hat, stop listening to crap music and stop letting a kid bitch slap him on public tv.

Let's not forget that Cam Newton is a young man, a very talented young man. However, the media uses him as a character (the whiny,  sore loser, "has potential", blah blah) in their array of storylines. Eli, the underrated little brother, Peyton the omniscient, Tom the pretty boy....and so on. Most people buy in to what they're told or the image that they're given by anyone telling their "story". There are a lot of good QB's in the league. I'm just happy that for once one of them plays for Carolina. I don't care what type of music he listens to or how he wears his hat. The fact is he hates to lose and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Does that mean he carries that into the next game? I've never seen him do that. He let's his emotions get the best of him sometimes.....anyone that says they don't do the same thing from time to time is slinging rocks from a glass house. I don't care where Cam ranks on someone's list. He's not going to be respected by everyone in the NFL. As long as the other 52 guys on the team respect him that's sufficient. (I realize I don't post often but I have five kids, I still keep up though. I'm a FNG here but been a fan since we played in Death Valley)

Yup, pump the brakes on the rookies and Kaep until we see what they look like after year 2 when opponents have had plenty of time to dissect their tape.I think Kaep and RG3 are the most likely to have some major flaws exposed.

I think RG3 is still HIGHLY suspect because I remember reading something from Greg Cosell (in a series of tweets I believe) about how RG3 was getting "basic training camp reads" for the better part of the season.

 

He credited Shanahan's brilliance in designing an offense to create such basic reads for his rookie QB but noted that this approach has a very short shelf life and we had yet to see what RG3 can do when opponents forced him to make more complex reads.

 

I'm sure Cosell isn't the first person in NFL circles to realize this after breaking down a season's worth of RG3's tape and you can't hide your QB for very long, so this coming season will be very interesting...

I'm not convinced RG3 stays healthy on the field long enough to have his flaws exposed.
