Peppers signed his tender (per WFNZ)

IF a new contract (an extended one) isn't done before the middle of July, the tender itself will surely be signed by then...

While Carey isn't really all that great of an "agent," he knows just like Gantt does what is on the line if Peppers doesn't get inked to something...

The heat will be on (both literally and figuratively) Peppers to be a Panther in some form by then, if for nothing else because we will be begin pressing pretty strong for rookie contract stuff around then...

Again, it isn't really about the money... Pep was kind of let down at the interest in him on the market, and would basically rather play at home where he is comfortable (under a new system (see ya Trgo!)) than somewhere else for a little bit more money but not a lot of respect...

Basically, the read I'm getting is that he'll be here, pissed off with the rest of the league, having more freedom in the new scheme, and foaming at the mouth to show his true value...

Opposing offenses, beware...

Huh? This late? What you smokin' mon?

The Panthers aren't gonna let him go... he's gonna play for us or nobody.

It's not too late. They could trade him for a player and or picks next year. Once training camp starts, it'll probably be too late.

Sure, they could trade him... but I doubt they will, Hurney's made it pretty clear that he's playing for the Panthers. Besides, picks for next year don't do Fox and Hurney any good this year... I guess we'll see.

CHARLOTTE -- After four months, the status of defensive end Julius Peppers is set for the 2009 season.

Peppers signed his contract tender on Wednesday, securing his return to the Panthers for an eighth season. In the previous seven campaigns, he logged 70.5 sacks and 24 forced fumbles, including 14.5 and five, respectively, during a 2008 season that ended with his fourth career Pro Bowl appearance.

"Over the past few months we have had regular communication with Carl Carey, Julius' representative, and all indications were that Julius would be signed to report to training camp," general manager Marty Hurney said, "Julius obviously is a very valuable member of our team and we look forward to the 2009 season."

With Peppers signed, the Panthers march into training camp with 21 of their 22 first-teamers from last year's 12-4 season still in the fold.
