Peppers signed his tender (per WFNZ)

Yes and no.

Is he getting paid handsomely? Yes, but that's the price the Panthers were willing to pay, so you can't really say they lose here either, at least not at this point.

What happens from here? Couple of possibilities:

- The Panthers could sign him to a long term deal this year (would have to happen by July 15th). This is the best case scenario for the team, as it locks him up and gets them cap relief.

- Peppers could play out this year on the tender deal and either agree to an extension later on or opt to go through this whole scenario again next offseason. This one's 50-50, as they get his services this season but next year we're back to square one.

Either way, the looming possibility of a holdout, training camp absence and missed time in the new scheme is completely gone, and that's a big win for the team.

Of course, whether he turns out to be worth the deal will be determined by his play. That part is unpredictable. You can make an educated guess that peppers in Meeks system could be the monster it's always thought he would be, and that's not a sure thing.

But is it a reasonable prediction? I'd say yes.

..backpedal much?

what happened to Mortal Kombat and "flawless victory"??

lmao

thank God someone with some ability to see past the end of their nose showed up.

Nobody knows and nobody ever will. But to claim a victory for Marty is not only speculative at the very least, it shows just how limited the insight is for some people.

Not really.

If you look back at the original post here, you'll see this:

Whether keeping Peppers is what individual fans wanted or not , it was in the end what the team wanted. Debate that decision if you will, but what can't be debated is that in the face off between GM and agent, the GM won...easily.

In other words, the long term outcome isn't known. What we do know however, is that Marty Hurney and Carl Carey each started this offseason with very different (and opposing) stated goals.

Carey's Goal: To get Peppers out of Carolina and onto a new team

Hurney's Goal: To keep Peppers in Carolina and lay the foundation for a long term deal

One of those guys got what he wanted. The other did not.

What happens from here, who knows? But the battle of wills is over, and a clear winner has emerged.

Game, set, match.

(Flawless Victory) :)

never thought i would ever associate you and limited insight when I first came to this board but as for this last series of posts and on this topic I definitely can.

no point in discussing it further

Wish I could say the same for you, hypocrite.

We have been arguing with you for years with those just about exact same words. And it took you 12 posts after FB's remark for you to put it in black & white. Apparently without even understanding what she was talking about.

And don't be any more of an idiot by telling me to link to those arguments because I won't. You know what I am saying is true, we all know it.

You fail.

just as I thought branDONE.

you're making sh*t up because you don't have a leg to stand on

again

Oh awesome, that is quite possibly the lamest attempt at an insult anyone has ever lobbed at me. Let's face it, you know I'm right and you're just getting hyper-defensive because now your arguments don't have a leg to stand on. Have fun with that chief, I'll go nurse my wounds from that scathing attack you just gave me. Ow.

brandumb-- I mean -DONE was just acting out because he is not intelligent enough or mature enough to rebut sensibly.

This coming from the 34 year old man acting like a petulant child because all the other kids at school don't like him. Give me a break. You take these stances on purpose to get attention. Tell me how was your relationship with your mother?

so ya got..nuthin

thanks for trying anyway. You are not even on topic. That was in reference to him NOT signing the LAST long term deal he was offered. Care to dispute that? It is easy to discern from him turning that deal down and the fact that he SAYS he wants out that .....he wants out. Not rocket science here. And that is all that the statement said. How much time did yo spend looking for that btw?.....lmao!

In no way does that mean anything close to "He will definitely never sign a long-term deal with the Panthers"

Everybody who thinks that Julius Peppers is going to turn into a happy camper is dreaming. I believe he must hate Carolina worse now than when he made his original statement.

This si not a yes/no on writing a check. This is a "I want out, I'm not sure the Panthers can offer me what I need to succeed, I don't care what kind of check they write" situation and to my knowledge Hurney has no experience indealing with that so it is plausible to say that he may break "character" and get a bit miffed and make a knee-jerk decision. Which is exactly what he made IMO.

No.

I do not agree.

He does not believe this team IS a contender.

He is not wanting more money. A different scheme is one of a couple of "excuses" he has thrown out there. He is not going to allow Marty Hurney to ship him somewhere of their choosing. He does not feel he owes them anything and may even feel like he has wasted a part of his career. I can only assume that though.

He wants out and the reasons do not shed anything positive on Carolina as a franchise. They tag him out of spite and greed. He sits on the tender.

The end..we're fvcked

so where does it say that they will "definitely never sign him long term"/

another wasted effort.

BranDONE you are wrong again (as usual) and if you think yours or any opinion of me on this site effects me in any way you need to re-examine who the child in this little discussion is. You are a plaything at this point. Nothing more.

You are quickly proving to be one of the more pathetically challenged and teen angst-driven posters here. Grow up.

I've never seen someone so in denial in all my life.

Make a poll and see who people agree with more. I really don't care but you obviously have some built up image of yourself that clearly conflicts with reality.

a poll? here?

lmao

why in the hell would I do that? As if that would prove anything. I haven't the slightest clue what you are thinking I am in denial of. That statement doesn't even make sense. I am quite sure thanks in part to your constant reiteration of the fact that you are desperately seeking approval in some way and don't care how you get it.

This is a sports forum. Being in the popular opinion will not make you cool. Neither will being in the contrary for that matter. Just try to stick to your own opinions and maybe you won't get any of the smart remarks that you earn when you are trying to be cute/make friends/gain self-image/bathe in self-worth/ or whatever it is you are trying to do.

my advice...free

your opinion of me personally..of zero consequence

For the record you are exposing a new button with each reply and I am not above pushing them all, repeatedly.

Why do you people keep responding to him(CR)? If you will stop replying to his post he might go away and I can get back to reading threads that stay on topic. You come across people like this all the time, the only opinion that matters is theirs, if you don’t agree you are not smart enough to understand and the worst of all they never shut up. Bottom line is ignore posters who have an over inflated opinion of themselves and concentrate on the ones who know how to have a discussion. Opinions will vary but civility should be the norm.

I know he'll never change his mind because to him all his opinions are fact, that's not why I do it. It is because I'm bored.

If you could comprehend the English language and did not have such selective memory I have repeated time and time again how my opinion are just that and the debates I get into is because posters here attack the validity of that opinion and its plausibility to even be discussed as an option.

I have never said anything is fact that wasn't but I have argued that my opinion is valid and not illegitimate.
