I would love this signing but what happens to Colin Jones?! He has some ability at FS but elite ability on special teams.

I see Godfrey, Mitchell, Mikell and either DJ or Jones bing the 4th safety or is there a 5th saftey on the roster?

Naka=cut

Robert Lester=PS

Mitchell= backup

DJ Campbell= Godfrey's backup

Colin Jones= Backup

I have a feeling Mikell and Mitchell will share snaps.

Godfrey over Minter? I don't mean to sound like a jerk but only a fan who hasn't seen Minter play would say such an absurd comment. Minter is the best safety this franchise has ever seen and you're proclaiming Godfrey is somehow superior despite the inconsistency in coverage and average tackling.

I've seen minter play his entire career.

He was a damn good strong safety, and a great leader.

Doesn't make him a better player at the free safery position.

If this doesn't happen I am going to feel like our defense is doomed. An overreaction, hell yes, but Mike Mitchell and DJ Cambell<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Mikell. Not even close, still the huddle will over react if we don't sign him (myself included)

Don't count on Mitchell making the team just bc he was a recent signing.

I'm really hoping Lester get the nod over Mitchell and we all know Naka is more than likely gone if Mikell is signed.

Ideally this is what I hope plays out.

For those who have a hard-on for Lester... i want him to succeed here but he was outmatched at the college level more than not. Are you guys just big Alabama fans?

He just had too many things to work on and Mitchell has played very well in his opportunities.

Tyvon Branch just has that 4.3 speed and quickly improved so Mitchell would be limited in PT with the raiders. I always have some BS player from the Raiders on my fantasy team.. Seen too many of their games.

Interesting analysis of Lester:

SUMMARY - Robert Lester does not have a natural NFL position and is unlikely to ever make a final roster. He is a slow-twitch athlete that looks stiff changing directions, and does not possess the acceleration needed to recover once beaten or close from off the ball. His poor speed and change of direction limits his effectiveness against faster TEs, making him a liability in all forms of coverage. Despite being an aggressive, physical run defender, he struggles to make plays on the boundary and looks physically maxed out at 220 lbs., making him very undersized for the LB position. While a 43 team could attempt to convert him to a WILL, his athletic limitations even for this position will likely make him a practice squad player.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
