Is it really so hard to jog back to the first page of a 4-page thread to find the quote? Calling me "that one guy" is as naïve as saying that Guillermo del Toro has never made a good movie.  There are apparently 2 types of people in this world: People who think Pan's Labyrinth is a great movie, and people too lazy to read subtitles.

lol well i'm sorry i offended you by not referring to you by your online alias. not quite sure how that makes me naive. lazy, sure.

and i'm glad you can lump everyone into those two categories. let's say pan's labyrinth is a great film (i thought it was decent), does that make del toro this fantastic director all of a sudden? not in my book. he certainly shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt that you're giving him. even you said it looked stupid judging by the previews.

and before i'm attacked, i'm not saying you should automatically cross the movie off your list simply because of a dumb looking preview. your thought process seemed to be something along the lines of:

1. this movie looks retarded

2. oh, del toro is directing it.

3. he directed that ONE movie i liked.

4. this is a must watch movie.

to me, the only intriguiging thing about this movie is the special effects. let's call it what it is; a cgi-heavy action flick. problem is the action looks boring, the premise is stupid (although this is expected from a cgi action movie), and the cgi isn't wowing me enough to warrant a theatre ticket ala avatar.

I was so lukewarm on this movie even though I am definitely in the Del Toro is God crowd. I like the old Godzilla movies and such but am not a fanatic about them.

But over time it's all grown on me and it looks like he is bringing something Spielbergian to this movie - the idea that a movie can be made by an adult artistic personality while channeling the sensibilities of the 12 year old boy in all of us - it's kind of the definition of "geek" to me.

I will be in my seat Friday night hoping to be blown away.

And how can you not like Pan's Labyrinth? My wife complained to holy hell about the subtitles when it started but by the end of the movie we both were crying, god what a beautiful, powerful and sad story, beautiful and creepy at the same time, with a great historical timeline to boot.

I saw a pre-screening of Pacific Rim yesterday and it's easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

This is not another "Robot" movie. Guillermo del Toro is a master.

1. this movie looks sort of silly

2. oh, del Toro is directing it.

3. he directed a couple of movies that I liked.

4. this is a movie I will see eventually, probably on a DVD from Redbox.

You forgot this segment of the crowd, such as me. Don't think I'd pay full price to see it, but if it comes on HBO or I find it in Redbox while browsing, I'd certainly give it a whirl.
