HR phone interview question. I broke my own rule of salary talk.

panthro the irony for me is i have posted for at least 16 openings internally with no nibble. same exact resume but with a dif company i get a call back within in a week.

companies have so many silly unspoken rules/games they shoot themselves in the foot. now watch me land this job and then get calls from my former employer on what i have been trying to get. lol

Also, if the company is trapped by salary bands, there are other ways to increase the overall package. More holiday, company car, parking space, club memberships etc...One guy i know had his employer pay for a pretty high end golf membership. That's unusual but there are always tons of options.

I was in a final interview for a sweet medical equipment sales job...and I skirted around the money issue and totally lost out on the position bc i did not say I want that cash!!

I have noticed like Zod said...it is now commonplace to get your salary and in some cases if you made more they will thank you and move on to another canidate.

Sales is a tough business to be in, lot's of strange hours, missing family stuff, high stress, etc...

The only reason people do it is for the money.

You have to hit them between the eyes with your desire to make more than even you think that you are worth.

Gonna be in this same boat soon.

Have an interview with a company next week. The low end of the salary band is what I'm currently on. I don't know when to bring up cash money though, because obviously to move I want a pay rise.

  • 2 weeks later...

did the face to face yesterday for 2 hrs with 3 dif people. the first mgr said the role you applied for i can tell based on talking to you and your background you would be bored. but this other consultant role I think you would love.

i'm gonna take that as a good sign. should find out next week. can be a game changer for the pstall clan if i land it.

drinks on me somewhere if it goes down baby.

I'm apparently being recruited also. I have my second phone interview today...or the formal phone interview.

It would be a side step with much more growth potential....I'm maxed for growth currently.

They mentioned a really strong comp package and I basically ignored the statement and continued asking them about how they run their comp.

It will be interesting.

I would be working for a boutique MSFT integrator. and running sales for 5 states...I've kind of enjoyed being on the manufacturing side of the house for the last 3 years. Resellers always have me wary.

Not sure exactly what you are saying here, but if you are saying that the middlemen make you nervous, I certainly understand why.
