Could our offense be competitive with the Saints and the Falcons O?

To answer the original question, I think that as far as the season goes, we can best the offensive output of the Falcons. BTW I am still not a true believer in Matt Ryan (not saying that I won't be). There is no way that we match the offensive output of the pass happy saints. Like it or not, Drew Brees is an efficient machine. Brees will get his.

As for our games against these guys, I think that defense will rule the day, and---tying to be objective as possible---I think that we will own these match-ups and win 3 out of 4. No way that their defenses are as good as ours, and our offense will benefit from the defensive disparities.

So I guess the Saints are lucky because no team has yet to "clamp down" on Brees' passing game, am I correct??

I didn't watch a whole lot of Saints games but I am guessing the Saints faced a lot of teams who used nickel or even dime on first and second based on the Saints' formations and tendencies not just going to it on third++ knowing that your pass O was your bread and butter. Pretty much daring them to run. If they had run on some of those downs (or maybe they did, you'll have to tell me) the Saints probably could have made the opposition pay. And even if they didn't get a bunch of yardage, if they did it enough they might back out of that and play them honest which would actually help the passing game. Perhaps they did all that though and that's a big source of the run yards they had.

Look at the playoff game against the Bears in 2006 for example. Sure the Saints passed for 350+ yds, but they ran for only 50ish and scored only 14 pts. That isn't efficient offense because they kept the Saints out of the endzone. It wasn't like the Saints were out of the game for a good bit of it and had to abandon the run.
