NBA Free Agency: Al Jefferson’s Meeting with Charlotte Bobcats Not Expected to be Productive

By: Josh Hill

Free agent forward Al Jefferson is expected to meet with the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday but not much is expected to come of it. Yahoo! Sports guru Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Bobcats will be meeting with Jefferson but Bobcats beat writer Rick Bonnell says that fans shouldn’t get too excited about what might happen.

Can confirm Al Jefferson is scheduled to visit Bobcats Wednesday. This sounds like more than a passing thing.

Jefferson is expected to draw some serious interest on the open market but even if he only had a few teams interested in him, the chances he would put Charlotte at the top of his destination list is laughable at best. Jefferson is one of two big name free agents the Utah Jazz might be losing this offseason and it appears they’re more dedicated to hanging onto Paul Millsap than they are Jefferson.

That being said, if Jefferson is willing to come back to the Jazz, their inability to re-sign Millsap might push them towards seeing what’s possible with Jefferson.

Charlotte seems to be looking for the future and that might include a plan to tank in an effort to draft Andrew Wiggins in next year’s draft. But nothing is a sure thing in the NBA it seems — well beyond the fact that Jefferson won’t be signing in Charlotte unless he’s seriously convinced and even then it’s a long shot.
