Horncats interested in Al Jefferson

I just can't wait for tomorrow. I'm almost sure that by tomorrow night, Big Al will be a Buzzcats. It may be just me, but I think he's a good guy to be the face of the franchise. I will def go watch more games if he signs here. FO have been preaching about making a big move in FA, and this clearly is. At least they know who they want, and doing it early. This move is pretty much a done deal already if the rumors are true.

I love what Rich Cho has done with this team in his short time here. He has a plan set up and is staying true to it. He's not hesitating and second guessing what he wants to do. He know exactly what to do. He took MKG. He didn't listen to the outsiders' point about Cody. He took him at no4 bc he done his work on the kid. No hesitation there. Now, he's going after Big Al, and this is the kind thing I look for from a good GM.

How does that worry you? For example only, does it worry you if we want to go after a Kyrie Irving, John Wall, Monroe or Cousins in the future. I bet you wouldn't at all, and those are guys who hasn't even taste winning before. Big Al is the closet thing that will get us near the Playoffs.

The difference is those guys are young and have only played for one team, while Jefferson has been in the NBA for 9 seasons.

It doesnt make him a bad player, its just something to watch out for.  Honestly I dont care about what happened in Boston and Minny because those were bad teams, but it seems weird that Utah would choose to blow up the team and trade Deron a few months after they traded for Jefferson.

They blew up the team after Sloan resigned. There was high tension between Sloan and Deron. It had nothing to do with Al. If you think about it, Al pretty much help saved that franchise by keeping it competitive after the departures of Sloan, Deron, and Boozer.

I am hopefull that Al Jefferson's deal is closer to the deal David West inked with Indiana today at 3 year-$36M.

Any more than $15M a year and we are over paying. I hope we don't tie him up for any more than 3 years with a 4th year team option.

By "closer", I hope you means 14-15 mil. Bc, that would be a huge slap in the face for Al if we offered him 12-13mil a year. Al was making 14mil last season. David West is also 4 years older than Al. If anything, that David West deal may force Al to up his asking price. That would suck. We'd be really lucky to get Al at 15mil.

I guess thats what they were thinking.  Doesnt make sense to me though, they should have brought a new coach in to try and convince Deron to stay and built around both of them instead of trading away the best player on the team and semi-tanking

Jefferson is good and I think he will be worth the big 4 year contract he is about to get, I just hope he doesnt turn into the next Shareef Abdur-Rahim if we sign him

David West is also a better player...

If we overpay the man, many of you will be so pissed off when we watch other teams sign those big name free agents next year.

I don't have our contracts in front of me so correct me if I am wrong BC I am doing this from memory.

But doesn't Gordon's contract expire next season at 12 million and isn't Thomas due @9 mill the following season?

So theoretically couldn't we use the money from Gordon's contract, amnesty Thomas' contract, and free up @21 mill if we wanted to sign another big time FA next offseason?

I'd would agree if only there were actually big name free agents next season. Monroe and Cousins are not even in the conversation. I'd take Al over Gortat (good center), Hawes, Bogut, Gasol, etc.

It totally will so AL Jeffy will basically be traded for the contract of Thomas possibly...but Gordon immediately next season.

Front court is solidified and other contracts come off as well.
