NHL Draft:1st Round (5th Overall): Carolina Selects Elias Lindholm

Recommended Posts

Canes have the option of buying him out, but haven't decided if they will or not. The are thinking about sending him back to Sweden for his final year and not buying him out.

Edit: They may not have the choice in the matter. So ignore what the Hurricane beat reporters are saying because he just said this to reporters and they've not mentioned it at all.

@dabrams2021 I was told by Lindholm himself, along with a room of reporters that he intends to honor his contract and play in Sweden.

Notes On Lindholm

NHL Director of European Scouting Goran Stubb:

"He's a complete package. He could very well be the next Peter Forsberg. He's an excellent skater and great competitor who gives it 110 percent on every shift. He can skate, score and pass, and is physically strong even though he is a finesse-type of player."

- He played 48 games for Brynas in 2012-13, finishing third on the team in points (11-19--30) despite being the youngest player on the roster. He also was one of only two players on Brynas to finish the season with a plus rating (+1).

- Lindholm was a finalist for the Rookie of the Year after leading all junior-aged players in the Swedish Elite League in scoring during the 2012 13 season.

- A two-time silver medalist, he competed for Team Sweden at the 2013 World Junior Championship, recording four points (2-2--4) in six games, and at the 2012 World Under-18 Championship, tallying three points (2-1--3) in four games.

- Lindholm's father, Mikael, was selected 237th overall by Los Angeles in 1987 and played 18 games for the Kings during the 1989-90 season. His cousin, Detroit Red Wings prospect Calle Jarnkrok, was drafted 51st overall in 2010.

- He started playing hockey in Germany at the age of three while his father was playing for the Hannover Scorpions.

I will say this, the Canes could potentially have an all-Swedes line in the next few years.

Victor Rask - Elias Lindholm - Erik Karlsson

Victor Rask is the big ? among that group, he's got tons of potential but I'm not sure if he ever gets there.
