I dont think its a terrible idea. However I am not watching Italy vs Uruguay today and I am a soccer fan.

 

I doubt the players would have motivation to go out and get the crap beat out of them unless there were some decent incentives.

If this was the Olympics with recognition for 3rd place this would makes sense, but it's not. At the end of the year, there's one Super Bowl champ and 31 losers. That's just the way it is.

i guess im just more business minded so im looking at it from the perspective of the league and not from the fans point of view..

would anyone on a team care about winning third place? at that point you're risking injury for a pointless feat, and from a GM/coaching perspective you're fighting a lose a spot in the draft. i can't see players taking it seriously enough to make it any more intense than the pro bowl as it is.

The World Cup is like the Olympics, not a professional league.  Barca and Real did not face-off in a UEFA Third Place Game.  In addition, the risk of injury in football is far greater than in futbol.  No sense in risking it for a meaningless competition.

what's the incentive for being third place? a worst draft pick than 4th?

 

i don't see why it matters or how a team would benefit by being third. first is all that matters. the rest just didn't get the job done.

To be fair...there are  LOT of pointless end of the season games! I believe this game would add revenue and more bragging rights! I believe coaches would use this game as a measuring stick just incase their team faced another high octane team in the playoffs. IF we eliminated the probowl and had a 3rd place game I believe this would get more ratings than a probowl game. The game would have to include a bonus for all involved especially the winners of the game.  I have to say from experience from playing in 3rd place game there still is a fire inside of everyone who plays and they do put forth a lot more effort than a meaningless probowl....
