NFL Third Place Game?

Ok this is not exactly panther related but fugg it and fugg yall, im writing this anyway...

 

I know soccer isn't exactly popular here but i think the NFL should take a page out of their book when it comes to tournaments. What im talking about is the "third place" game that FIFA tournaments have [world cup, confed cup].

 

Basically, in the NFL playoffs, this would mean that the losers in the NFC/AFC championship game would face off sometime before the Super Bowl [most likely not at a neutral site] and the winner of said game would establish the third best team in the NFL that season.

 

Benefits include:

-More revenue for the NFL and the participating teams

-More football for us during the lag period before the Super Bowl

-More slots for other players in the Pro Bowl [since the players in the 3rd place game wouldnt go]

-Did i mention an extra game?

 

Drawbacks:

-none

I think it's a terrible idea but I'm not gonna lie I would be watching. So would America.

 

what makes it terrible? do you think it dilutes the playoffs? i doubt teams/players would "settle" for playing for the bronze.. but let me know what you think.

would anyone on a team care about winning third place? at that point you're risking injury for a pointless feat, and from a GM/coaching perspective you're fighting a lose a spot in the draft. i can't see players taking it seriously enough to make it any more intense than the pro bowl as it is.

No player is going to put his body and thus his livelihood on the line for a meaningless game. See the Probowl for an example.

Nobody would even care to play or watch because teams in this league don't strive for 3rd place

Not even the panthers as much as it seems that they strive to be also-rans

yea if you offer money to the teams and the 28th draft spot for the 3rd place finisher, there's plenty of incentive to play... and if youre concerned that players wont risk their bodys for meaningless games, ill refer you to the preseason.

      The qb position has been eliminated due to the low probability of the success of selecting one early.  This part got me hollering the most "You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just draft a QB and any QB.       Then be prepared to draft a QB the next year. When the best one would surely not play here. Then what?   This fanbase keeps preaching patience, while other bottom feeders are finding their QB's. Panthers fans are becoming blind. The losing has caught up to the fanbase. We preaching patience when we have been a bad franchise ever since Tepper took over.   But because you don't like Sanders or Ward we should pass on a QB. Then when they become franchise changers you feel bad.   Everyone knows this franchise will continue to suck until they get a franchise QB. Chasing LBs and DEs isn't helping us. We can address the defense after we get the QB.   Cmon Hepcat don't let the blind lead you they blind for a reason!

      Imagine posting on a forum to mock people for posting on a forum. Whether you realize it or not you just played yourself. LOL  Guess what? We've heard people like you lecture people with opinions about how *insert former Panthers front office or coach moron* knows best and we're all just idiots. This forum exists to discuss Panthers football and that includes *GASP* sharing opinions that may be contrary to what the Panthers end up doing.  If you just want a circle jerk of an echo chamber reassuring you that everything the Panthers do is brilliant despite the abysmal record on the field, I think they made a Discord group for that.
