NFL Third Place Game?

Ok this is not exactly panther related but fugg it and fugg yall, im writing this anyway...

 

I know soccer isn't exactly popular here but i think the NFL should take a page out of their book when it comes to tournaments. What im talking about is the "third place" game that FIFA tournaments have [world cup, confed cup].

 

Basically, in the NFL playoffs, this would mean that the losers in the NFC/AFC championship game would face off sometime before the Super Bowl [most likely not at a neutral site] and the winner of said game would establish the third best team in the NFL that season.

 

Benefits include:

-More revenue for the NFL and the participating teams

-More football for us during the lag period before the Super Bowl

-More slots for other players in the Pro Bowl [since the players in the 3rd place game wouldnt go]

-Did i mention an extra game?

would anyone on a team care about winning third place? at that point you're risking injury for a pointless feat, and from a GM/coaching perspective you're fighting a lose a spot in the draft. i can't see players taking it seriously enough to make it any more intense than the pro bowl as it is.

Injury concerns in a basically meaningless game. It may be great for the fans, but I don't see the players union going for it.

No player is going to put his body and thus his livelihood on the line for a meaningless game. See the Probowl for an example.

I think the last place team in each Conference should be able to play against each other during the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

 

That would be better then watching some BS performance, by some music artist I dont listen too.

Nobody would even care to play or watch because teams in this league don't strive for 3rd place

Not even the panthers as much as it seems that they strive to be also-rans

yea if you offer money to the teams and the 28th draft spot for the 3rd place finisher, there's plenty of incentive to play... and if youre concerned that players wont risk their bodys for meaningless games, ill refer you to the preseason.

I do not watch the pro bowl and I would not watch this, seems like a pointless game. I am sure lots of other people would though.
