Hurricanes Interested In Acquiring Braydon Coburn

Recommended Posts

Dustin Leed: The Flyers have talks with the Flames, Blues, Oilers, Hurricanes among others.

Todd Cordell: According to Darren Dreger, Braydon Coburn is in play with the Oilers and Hurricanes possibly interested.

A deal like the following could definitely be on the table for Philadelphia.

Carolina Receives: Braydon Coburn, 11th overall pick

Philadelphia Receives: 5th overall pick

This trade works out for both sides as Carolina gets their defenseman and a chance to add to a prospect to their depleted talent pool, where as Philadelphia can add a very good forward (Barkov, Drouin, Nichushkin, Monahan).

For those wondering who might be available at the 11th pick (if this trade goes through), keep these names in your mind.

Rasmus Ristolainen, Defenseman: What Ristolainen supplies -- big, strong, offensively skilled and nasty to play against. He's already 6-4 and 207 pounds with room to grow.

Ryan Pulock, Defenseman: The 6-foot, 211-pounder has one of the hardest shots in this year's draft class, is a leader and a big-time power-play performer. He's also tough -- Pulock sustained a fractured orbital bone and broken wrist this season but ultimately returned to the lineup.

Anthony Mantha, Right Wing: The big forward popped in 50 goals this season. Mantha was only player in this year's draft class from the top North American junior leagues to score 50 goals.

Elias Lindholm, Center: He needs to get bigger, but has the makings of another Nicklas Backstrom.

Nikita Zadorov, Defenseman: The Hurricanes could use some physical defensemen in their pipeline and there aren't many better than the 6-5.25, 221-pound left-handed shooting Russian. A good skater with a great compete level, Zadorov is strong and physical. He had six goals, 25 points, a plus-33 rating and 54 penalty minutes as a rookie in OHL.

Bo Horvat, Center: A big scorer also highly regarded for his two-way game. He might be the best faceoff man in this year's draft class.

Info On Braydon Coburn

Braydon Coburn is a 28 year old defensman for the Philadelphia Flyer and was one of the better Flyers defenseman last year, but the Flyers acquiring Mark Streit from the Islanders makes Coburn expendable.

At 6'5, 220 lbs., Coburn would provide great size on defense. On top of being a very solid two-way player, Coburn is not afraid to drop the gloves.

Last year Coburn played 33 games recording 1 goal, 4 assists, 5 points, 41 pim's, and a -10 rating.

Coburn was originally drafted by Atlanta before being traded to the Flyers.

Coburn's best season came during the 2007-08 season when Coburn recorded 9 goals, 27 assists, 36 points, 74 pim's, and a +17 rating in 78 games.

At 28, Coburn is still young enough to be a player that the Hurricanes can build around and he would definitely be a good guy to have beside Joni Pitkanen.

The deal that Philly wants is

Hurricanes receive - Braydon Coburn.

Philly Receives - Carolina's 5th overall selection.

That isn't worth it, Coburn is coming off a horrible season and he's only had three decent seasons in a 9 year career. He's no way shape or form a top 4 defense man and isn't worth giving up the 5th overall pick for.

If the team is giving up Skinner or the 5th overall pick they better be getting more bang for their buck then this crappy trade proposal.
