Overrated/Underrated

I wouldn't include Ricky Manning. Nobody talks about him, but he was super solid during his time here.

Also, Mike Rucker for underrated?

The issue with Ricky is very simple. His style of play was killed after the 2003 season when the NFL implemented the illegal contact rule after 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. His best skill set was jamming the WR at the line a disrupting their routes. Once the rule was implemented, he could not change with the rule.

Always hated that rule because of that. It gives the WR to much of an advantage. Steve Smith never seemed to be bothered with DB's "trying" to jam him or knock him off of his route. WR's are some crying little bitches.

". In 1999, Beuerlein threw for 4,436 yards with 36 touchdowns to 15 interceptions, but failed to lead the Panthers to the playoffs. In fact, that team never was better than .500 and suffered an embarrassing loss to a bad Steelers team in Week 16 when a win likely would have sealed a playoff berth. A franchise quarterback needs to make the playoffs, and the Panthers never finished with a winning record in their three seasons with Beuerlien under center."

Here's another example of this stupid "QB is 100% responsible for W/L" fallacy stigma currently applied to Cam rearing its ugly head. In 1999 the Panthers had the 28th ranked defense. Of course they also failed to mention Fred Lane fumbling at the goal line in the first quarter of that steelers game, the fact that the defense had no answer for Bettis, and the fact that a shitstorm really paralyzed the offense, not the steelers' defense. I guess that was all Beuerlein's fault too.

I agree. These assholes that write theses stories never look at the whole picture. A QB is not to blame for W/L's. I give less than a damn what anyone says. This game that we love is the epitome of a "Team Sport" it takes all 22 bodies on that damn field to win the game.  When your defense is not performing, it puts extra pressure on the offense to step it up. The can will cause mistake and turn overs. Steve B was a very good Qb and his numbers show it. Take a look at the W/L's and the scores of these games. it was he and the offense that was keeping the panthers in the games and the defense loosing them.

Lol, the most intelligent fan base in the NFL.

See this is where fans get retarded. They only remember the negative things a player does after (what should have been a career ending surgery). Jakes career should have been over with the injury he sustained. No other QB in NFL history has come back (the same as before) from that injury.

They also seem to try and blame Jake for the massive playoff lose to Arizona. But forget the the coaching staff turned the game into a pass happy game with a week pass blocking line (at the time) when Dwill was running all over them in the first QTR.

Fans forget that this no name career backup Qb came in took over and lead this team to more layoff wins than any previous QB in the teams history.

But yeah lets keep shitting on a player whom everyone in the this forum cheered for over this first 4 seasons and two playoff trips that also lead us to 1 Superbowl and 1 NFC title game.

Not to mention the season he was injured, in 3 games he Had 8 TD to 1 INT and a QB rating of 111.8 with waht looked to be him having a career season.

Now what other QB in our team history has lead this team to the payoffs and won more playoff games to date? So yeah lets poo on him. TO DATE BEST QB THIS TEAM HAS HAD!!! Cam looks good and is getting better, but until we make the playoffs and win there Jake still the best we have had.

Not a rating Fan just the damn facts!

I said the very same thing but some people think all you need is a qb. That's just a starting point

Delhomme = most Overrated

Delhomme = most Underrated

^truest poo i ever wrote

Its true and its well said, there are more opinions on the extremes of Jake's career more so than any other Panther. . . for better or for worse.

but

Beuerlein was the most underrated though. Players would often not know if he was playing or not til game day. Theyd see him all mummified in the enough tape to make King Tut jealous and go "yup he's playing".  He had a hell of a story that year and the cats couldnt make it happen.

He was an outstanding player and leader. I'll bet most of the rookies have no idea who he is. In fact, didnt Jimmeh shake his hand and give that impression when he signed on? lol pitiful.
