Lotulelei can take double teams when you move him inside as a 1 Tech (not only that, but destroy them... like Sapp). He doesn't just rely on being big to manhandle smaller players, he's very athletic which is good in transition to the NFL. Needs to work on hand moves, rip and swim, may take him awhile to ramp up. Can't just take Nick Mangold and "throw him on his ass", but he has good movement and speed. "You can make guys stronger but you can't make them more athletic." I like Lotulelei because he's so athletic. Could sub in as 4-3 DE because of his speed, can put him anywhere on the line and he can make a difference.

 

I don't think they liked Short pick too much. They called him enigmatic but blasted him for taking plays off. Inconsistent flashes of athleticism and greatness, teased with plus attributes/traits but not consistent effort or execution. Panthers think they can coach him well and have him starting by year 2. Rivera knows football, can be brusque when he needs to be and knows what he's in for.

AJ Klein has chance of being better than Teo. They said as a starting player he's a far better prospect than Dan Connor, more upside. They really raved about him. They see him as a "good starting MLB in the NFL." Also mentioned was he's a terrific kid. The more tape you watch the more you like him. Better athlete than you think, not great though. Good sideline to sideline movement, shot gaps effectively. They think in a 3 linebacker system (thinking the Panthers do it more than other teams) and run situations, etc. that we got a 2nd/3rd round talent late.

 

Said we never developed a consistent run game with the read option but Barner is familiar with shotgun read option, Barner pick makes a lot of sense. Downhill zone runner, deceptive speed with good burst. Only problem is his size so he's a "satellite player" but will excel in shotgun/read option/zone offense. "Gem/bargain" pick in the 6th round. Both definitely think he makes the team. He reminds them both of Warrick Dunn.

Thanks for the summary brother but there's no link. I really hope that there wrong about KK. I see a lot of upside with him. I also think that Barner will turn out well but he may have to wait a year or two.

I still think Short was a smart choice in the 2nd.

 

I have to admit it was frustrating watching tape on Short at Purdue. At some points, especially during his 2011 season, he looked to be at least the 2nd best DT in the draft. At the same time it was annoying to see plays where he had little to no impact and did little to pursue a play after it got away from his field of view. Ultimately he had some great production at Purdue and when taking into account in 2012 they played him 93% of snaps as well as played him at NT, I can understand why he looked tired at some points of the game. Getting him into an NFL conditioning program and getting his weight closer to that of a UT will help elevate Short.

 

Another thing I did is go back and watch the whole Senior Bowl to see how his skills translated to a new group of players and different coaches. Short didn't overly dominate the game, but he did create a lot of QB pressures. In terms of on field match-ups he went against the best duo of interior linemen (imo) with Larry Warford and Brian Schwenke, winning and losing some of the battles. Short was pretty much the only player I saw beat Larry Warford and he terrorized double teams by Schwenke and Gilkey. When the South put in their 2nd sting O-Line Short basically made them bite the pillow. He was also the winner of the most outstanding player on the North Squad.

Overall I think the duo of Short and Star could be one scary fuging group if both develop into what they can be.

Shorts play in the senior bowl was pretty dominant, hope he plays like that here
